i'll never understand why that when i start talking to someone in xiv, and we start to do things together, there's always at least 1 person that notices this, and tries to "battle" me for the person's attention.

You pay your subs for content; rewards are the incentives to stay sub and/or engage with the game.
Take away criterion update, did it change what you'd do in game daily/weekly? If the answer is no, then this content is DOA.
