Today is my last day at the @CadillacNews. I have loved working here but we are moving back to Lansing to raise my daughter closer to her grandparents and cousins. I'll be freelancing and re-launching @MichiganVolumes. Here are some of my favorite Cadillac News clips (thread).

I think there's a Taylor Swift song for every situation and feeling except for the experience of having an abusive mother, thanks to Andrea for being an angel on earth. I’d like to know if there’s a singer-songwriter who addresses the mother wound. It’s kind of a need sometimes.

I think this might be my favorite video of the post-Lover era, and it's only 10% because my mumbling into the void re: TLOAS being a 90s album has been vindicated.
Taylor Swift@taylorswift13

My favorite part about writing is that first spark of an idea. It can happen at any time, for any reason. The idea for the Opalite music video crash landed into my imagination when I was doing promo for The Life of a Showgirl. I was a guest on one of my favorite shows, @TheGNShow. For those of you who aren’t familiar, it’s a UK late night show where Graham Norton (the insanely charismatic and lovable host) invites a random group of actors, entertainers, musicians, etc to be on his show and we all sit there and chat like it’s a dinner party. They even serve wine. Anyway. I remember thinking I got ridiculously lucky with the group I was paired with. Cillian Murphy, Domhnall Gleeson, Greta Lee, Jodie Turner-Smith, and @LewisCapaldi. All people whose work I’ve admired from afar. When we were all talking during the broadcast, Domhnall made a light hearted joke about wanting to be in one of my music videos. He’s Irish! He was joking! Except that in that moment during the interview, I was instantly struck with an *idea*. And so a week later he received an email script I’d written for the Opalite video, where he was playing the starring role. I had this thought that it would be wild if all of our fellow guests on the Graham Norton show that night, including Graham himself, could be a part of it too. Like a school group project but for adults and it isn’t mandatory. To my delight, everyone from the show made the effort to time travel back to the 90’s with us and help with this video. You might even recognize some friendly faces from The Eras Tour. I got to work with one of my favorite people in the world, Rodrigo Prieto, again! I had more fun than I ever imagined - Made new friends, metaphors, and fashion choices. It was an absolute thrill to create this story and these characters. Shot on film. The Opalite video is out now on Spotify & Apple Music. taylor.lnk.to/OpaliteMusicVi…

@PollyHolyoke Will there be a third Skyriders? I decided to try reading MG on audio with my 6yo and we really enjoyed the first two. A great family listen for a couple of horse-crazy girls (we did all the Chincoteagues and you were our first stop after Marguerite Henry).

As we have seen recently with legislation implementing Proposal 3 of 2018 and Proposal 2 of 2022, the Secretary of State must have a good working relationship with the Legislature. I am thankful for the endorsements from such committed public servants.

@jrostopovich Are you looking for reviews of stuff that’s yet-to-be-published, published in the last year… 10 years old but new perspective, etc? 😇

No need to write the review first, just pitch me and link to a sample of your writing. Looking for pitches (women only) with sharp insight/interesting angles. I’m out of town but will review any pitches and get back to them Monday.

@fstockman @dieworkwear . . . If habeas corpus evaporates, culture writers who can *say something* without saying *the* thing will be valuable. At the risk of joking the joke: Look at this representative of the administration who spends $$$ but fails to execute properly, hmm, makes ya think.

@fstockman @dieworkwear Oh man, it sucks when beats collide. @fstockman, Derek’s beat is menswear. He’s doing his literal job quite excellently—using images with which ppl are already familiar to shed light on the nuances of his topic. I get that fashion sometimes seems trivial, but . . . (1/2ish)

I disagree. In this thread, I will tell you what's wrong with Stephen Miller's outfits. Hopefully, this will help you judge whether a suit fits when you're shopping for one. 🧵

@dieworkwear If you feel like doing a lady a solid, I took apart my frock coat (equestrian) & am having the damnedest time figuring out how to sew the vent back together bc it attaches @ the waist. All the vids I’ve found on YouTube show vents that start mid-panel. Suggest a search term?

It's very hard to find a suit jacket that can be worn with jeans, assuming you mean the kind of suits that would be worn for business. Let me show you. 🧵

@dieworkwear If I want a couple “business casual” suit jackets that I can weak with jeans etc, where do you recommend I start? 😬

@dieworkwear I never would have noticed the swooping line and now I can’t stop seeing it (and think it’s beautiful).

Given her training in Milan, you can see some elements of Milanese tailoring in her house style: clean, architectural lines with a slight ridge at the sleevehead. I like how she creates a swooping line for the gorge—the seam that connects the jacket's collar to the lapel.

Someone asked me why there aren't any high-end Chinese clothing brands. They are many! In this thread, I'll name a few, as well as answer the question why you may not have heard of them. 🧵

Quince sells Chinese cashmere sweaters for $60. William Lockie sells Scottish cashmere knits for $400. Italian cashmere knits can cost anywhere from $200 to $7,000. When you handle these in a store, it can be hard to tell the difference because quality reveals itself over time.

@JeffBezos The Washington Post has a website and is on the internet. Instead of using it to elevate educated and well-edited arguments, you’re opting to stifle speech and amplify an echo chamber.

I shared this note with the Washington Post team this morning: I’m writing to let you know about a change coming to our opinion pages. We are going to be writing every day in support and defense of two pillars: personal liberties and free markets. We’ll cover other topics too of course, but viewpoints opposing those pillars will be left to be published by others. There was a time when a newspaper, especially one that was a local monopoly, might have seen it as a service to bring to the reader’s doorstep every morning a broad-based opinion section that sought to cover all views. Today, the internet does that job. I am of America and for America, and proud to be so. Our country did not get here by being typical. And a big part of America’s success has been freedom in the economic realm and everywhere else. Freedom is ethical — it minimizes coercion — and practical — it drives creativity, invention, and prosperity. I offered David Shipley, whom I greatly admire, the opportunity to lead this new chapter. I suggested to him that if the answer wasn’t “hell yes,” then it had to be “no.” After careful consideration, David decided to step away. This is a significant shift, it won’t be easy, and it will require 100% commitment — I respect his decision. We’ll be searching for a new Opinion Editor to own this new direction. I’m confident that free markets and personal liberties are right for America. I also believe these viewpoints are underserved in the current market of ideas and news opinion. I’m excited for us together to fill that void. Jeff

Actually, the US government has been involved with clothing in a few ways. The results have been glorious. Let me show you. 🧵
Barb; Grandmother@Gramma_Barbie

@dieworkwear Imagine there was a Department of Clothing and you had to wear the clothes the government made. There would be itchy tags and serged seams. It would be a disaster.
