Had a conversation with a friend @v96809076 this week that got me thinking I have two ISAs running at the moment Stocks & Shares ISA: £21,764 Cash ISA (Chip): £15,728 at 3.75% He said I’m leaving money on the table keeping so much in cash Historically stocks return 8-10% a year My cash ISA is only doing 3.75% Should I move more into my Stocks ISA? Just an FYI tomorrow morning you can buy STRK at a price for more than 10% yield before it goes to monthly or semi monthly and the price skyrockets. Get paid 10% effective while waiting for MSTR and Bitcoin to moon… 🤔🤔🤔 70% STRD / 30% MSTR is also a killer income/growth allocation that IMHO is better than 100% STRK. Regardless, I don’t expect the deals to last.

When I started investing I did what most beginners do. I chased yield. 20% yield? Take my money. 15% yield? Incredible. All in. Here’s what nobody told me: Yield and total return are not the same thing. A stock paying 20% yield whilst falling 25% in value isn’t generating income. It’s returning your own capital to you. In smaller pieces. While pretending it’s a return. The maths: £10,000 in a 20% yield fund losing 15% NAV annually: → Year 1: £2,000 income. Portfolio worth £8,500. → Year 3: £6,000 income collected. Portfolio worth £6,000. → Year 5: You’ve broken even. Barely. £10,000 in a boring 8% total return index fund: → Year 5: £14,693 → No drama. No dividend cuts. No NAV erosion. Yield is seductive. Total return is what actually makes you wealthy. I learned this the expensive way. You don’t have to.

If you are buying STRC in the UK, it is a lot more tax efficient to buy it via the 21Shares ETP. The 21Shares STRC ETP is issued by 21Shares in Switzerland and structured as a listed security (in Switzerland). This means gains on sale are generally subject only to Capital Gains Tax (CGT) in the UK, with no income tax on the product itself. If you buy STRC directly it is subject to both income and CGT. However, unlike in the US where the monthly distributions are treated as Return of Capital (ROC) (non-taxable, reducing cost base).
