#DYK holiday trees are involved in hundreds of fires each year? Electrical light malfunctions & placing trees too close to heat sources are common causes. A dry tree can burn fast & intensely. Keep yours well-watered & turn off holiday lights before bed or when leaving home.

It's fall back time! ⏰
With the sun setting earlier, here are a few tips to consider so you drive safely and help keep pedestrians and cyclists safe:
-Adjust your sleep schedule so you are well rested
-Turn your headlights on sooner in the evening so you are more visible
-Actively watch for pedestrians and cyclists out enjoying the autumn evenings.
And if you are out enjoying a walk or bike ride, be sure to wear light colors and reflective material so drivers can see you sooner!

Don't push your luck. Avoid getting stuck.
If you have an oversized trailer in tow, crossing a railroad track could end in disaster. Consider taking an alternate route to avoid breaking down on the tracks and placing yourself and others in danger.

Rushing isn't worth risking a life.
Speeding in school zones could end with a hefty fine — or worse. Ensure kids get to and from class safely by following posted speed limits and keeping a watchful eye out for smaller pedestrians.

More schools across the state are returning to the classroom this week, which means we will see more school buses on the roads, especially in the mornings and afternoons.
Unfortunately, school bus stop-arm violations continue to be reported across the state, despite the danger to kids and the potential of a fine and six points against their driver's license.
Take a moment to refresh your knowledge on when to stop for a school bus in South Carolina and help us keep kids safe by doing your part on the road.

It's never a convenient time to experience a breakdown on the highway. But just because your car breaks down doesn't mean you have to.
If you find yourself stranded on the roadside, remember to stay calm, move your vehicle as far away from traffic as possible, and turn on your hazard lights to increase your visibility. If you need help, call for roadside assistance or dial *HP (*47) from your mobile device.
And in the event of an emergency, call 911.
