The Colony’ opened in 1903 to cater for the ‘Epileptic insane of the Metropolis’ and offered the newest treatments available. Sadly, George died aged 68 in 1911.

George David Sabey was a bootmaker from East London and suffered great financial difficulty which led to George struggling with his mental health. George was admitted into Conley Hatch Lunatic Asylum where he spent the next 20 years. Read more - hortoncemetery.org/sabey-george-d… #Epsom

Richard Waterer was a coachman from South London that became patient #1 at the newly built St Ebbas Epileptic Colony in #Epsom. After a fall Richard suffered dementia, epilepsy & alcohol dependency. Find out more about Richards story - hortoncemetery.org/waterer-richar…

Augustus spent many years inside asylums, eventually moving to Horton Asylum. In 1906 at the age of 65, Augustus died and was buried in #Horton Cemetery. There is no evidence he had any contact with his family after his admittance. (4/5)

Last weekend, Friends of Horton Cemetery (& Freddie the dog) were able to meet for the very first time! It was fantastic to be able to pay thanks to our volunteer researchers working to write the stories of the patients of the #Epsom Cluster!
