@HorwichBookBite @oflynnsocial @simplysimontfa There have been times in the past when colour has held people back but that doesn’t mean we should feel guilty rather it means we forge a future where character is more important than colour

Most working class voters don't indulge the "white privilege" thing because they haven't had privilege. Been to ordinary schools, grew up in tough circs, made their own way in life. When they hear posh Wokes they think: "Feel free to swivel on your privilege. I haven't had any."

@BillEtheridgeuk @oflynnsocial @simplysimontfa Class and structural issues certainly operating, in my family history too, butI think the point is that being black adds another layer of challenge that white people don't experience, and don't even have to think about, my understanding is that this is what is meant b 'privilege'

@oflynnsocial @simplysimontfa Exactly right . I’m 200 years into my family tree research and can’t find anyone who wasn’t living in appalling conditions and abject poverty . Black Country foundries and Lancashire mills were our privilege

@lucyfoleytweets Our themed food for book club discussion of The Hunting Party. An updated Agatha Christie, good for a winter read.

This should be headline news everywhere. Photo ID means voter suppression, on a huge scale. 3.5 million people in the UK don't have it, generally the poor and marginalised. This will stop them from voting. independent.co.uk/news/uk/politi…

@BenMyers1 (Fat rascals with sorrel garnish). Strong parallels with the drugs trade we thought. Brutal; too brutal for a couple of our group to cope with, but beautiful and lyrical despite the starkness.
