The slowest marathon finish in Olympic history took 54 years, 8 months, 6 days, 5 hours, 32 minutes and 20.3 seconds. It belongs to a Japanese runner named Shiso Kanakuri. In 1912, halfway through the marathon at the Stockholm Olympics, he collapsed in the heat, stumbled to a stranger’s house, was given raspberry juice and cinnamon rolls, lay down on a couch, and slept until the next morning. Embarrassed, he caught a boat home to Japan without telling anyone. The Swedes listed him as a missing person for the next half a century. Then in 1967, at the age of 75, Swedish television tracked him down, flew him back, and let him finish the race. As he crossed the line, he said: “It was a long trip. Along the way I got married, had six children and 10 grandchildren.”

Wrapped up another successful media day with the @HillsboroHops ‼️ I had ~3 minutes per athlete to do 3 different photo stations. I LOVED how the images turned out. The work is now posted on my Instagram @ HowLaoPhotography
