Not sure…I think the refs last night called it fair both sides…but it reminded me of how the refs called Game 4 of the Pistons Knicks series last year. It was a throwback to the late 90s where they both were allowed to play very physically…the whistle was fair both ways, but it was not officiated the way most games had been in the 82 game regular season.

I love women's college basketball.
I watched both Final Four games last night, a heavily hyped up affair with all four 1-seeds.
It was the SAME teams from last year too.
Big brands. Big familiarity.
But it was BRUTAL watch.
1) Two of the biggest stars, Azzi Fudd & Madison Booker, went a combined 6 for 37. The leading scorer for any team was 16 points.
2) Only one team cracked 60 points. The others were all under 52. All four average at least 83 points per game.
So what happened?
When the elites normally play, it turns into a boxing match. The players are used to trampling lesser teams.
But the players feel robotic. The sets seem static.
What gets lost in the Caitlin Clark phenomena is her imagination.
I think the game lacks that to a certain degree.
What are your thoughts? What should change?

@1frm_sanantonio I believe that can be the case, but yesterday wasn’t just ‘we’ve finally met our match’. The SEC has games where top 10 teams play each other and those games are not the rock fights we saw last night.

There's some truth to the initial statement there's such a broad Gap and talent and personnel that the elite teams are very rarely pushed
They have their way against the inferior teams and then when he gets down to the elite eight final four it becomes a fist fight

I'm not sure it is a lack of imagination vs the specific skill set that Clark has that made her unique AND (I think more importantly about what we saw last night) the way the games were officiated. The refs let the young women play yesterday. They kept showing the stats of off the dribble FG% vs off the pass FG%. It was night and day. Clark is a rare player who can get hers off the dribble and can do so from distance (it helps that she's 6'0"). None of the 4 teams yesterday had a player with that skill set combination. Betts being 6'7" helped her get hers vs. Texas and Makeer is also a big guard at 6'1") helped her be effective. The biggest reason for the low scores was the way both games were officiated. Geno and Cori both were extremely exercised about the way their games were officiated.

The only reason why there is any pushback is not enough people have lived in the Mountain Time Zone to experience it.

@recruittheboot They are each rotational players...not starters but can be in an NBA team's top 8. Yes, each is flawed, but it speaks to the depth of the league when you have 3 guys on one team that struggle to get minutes when they are good enough to get minutes. (Reed is AN EXCELLENT backup C)
