According to experts, the origins of St. Valentine's Day were not romantic but rather violent, beginning with the beheading of St. Valentine by a Roman Emperor in the 3rd century AD. Thanks to Chaucer and Shakespeare, it gradually evolved into a celebration of #love and #romance.

One of the recent projects at the museum involves an Ostrander-Seymour Co. chute board, traditionally used to square plates or smooth the edges of metal processed on the saw. This is a Style A, measuring 12” x 18”, with a squaring plane. #printingmuseum #printinghistory

Ran into an old friend in #Vienna recently. Unveiled in Dec 1900, the monument of #Gutenberg & the marble pedestal were created by sculptor Hans Bitterlich & architect Max Fabiani. The pedestal features a relief of the printers’ coat of arms. #printinghistory #moveabletype

GM Thornton, long established printers in Toronto, produced this issue in 1968. Today, the original "cuts" used in producing the book are proudly showcased at the Howard Iron Works Printing Museum, highlighting the rich history and legacy of this invaluable financial resource.

Published for over 100 years, the MURRAY’S INTEREST TABLES was originally created by Benjamin W. Murray, an esteemed accountant serving the Supreme Court of Ont. Thank you, Bruce Thornton, for sharing part of GM Thornton's legacy with the museum. #printingmuseum #printinghistory
