No one should live in this kind of fear. The Trump administration and the US Attorneys’ Office in North Texas are coming after New Yorkers’ health records, demanding personal, private data from health care providers and transgender youth, possibly including details on family, friends, and schools. This is a terrifying escalation: The Trump Justice Department and far-right politicians are showing that they will go after the health care rights of anybody they dislike. Governors, legislators, attorneys general, and mayors in states and cities that protect LGBTQ+ equality have spoken up loudly in recent years as places like Texas have stripped away the ability for trans youth, and increasingly, adults, to access care. Now it’s time for them to back up their words with action.

Giving public dollars to preschools that openly treat students with LGBTQ+ parents differently is state-backed discrimination. Plain and simple. This case is part of a dangerous, escalating path that takes aim at LGBTQ+ children, parents, and entire family units. This must stop.
