"...there is a sneaking suspicion among many, myself included, that this plan is merely the first step in closing down or selling off the Cincinnati campus altogether. The proposed plans for the campus are completely unserious." tabletmag.com/sections/commu…

@BillWeinsteinOH @Gil_Hoffman Cincinnati hasn’t been the heart of the Reform movement in decades. We can feel upset over this decision, but let’s not conflate nostalgia with the reality on the ground

@on_slack Equating interfaith families with non-Jews is just offensive — there is a difference between studying NT with a historical/critical framework and learning how to practically work with and welcome in interfaith families

@HUCJIR The cognitive dissonance of acknowledging HUC’s failure to include women on a “Founders’ Day” that celebrates, among others, a supporter of slavery is mind boggling. Not to mention all the other ways we honor Isaac Mayer Wise…

During last week’s New York Founders' Day Celebration, before the recitation of the Kaddish, Rabbi Andrea Weiss, Ph.D., Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Provost, shared a list of women who wanted to become rabbis but were denied that opportunity. vimeo.com/685510530

@on_slack @HUCJIR @ReformJudaism 6. Students are held to literally no other such dogmatic standard. We are welcome to make choices on Shabbat, Kashrut, and religiosity in general. Why this one thing?

@on_slack @HUCJIR @ReformJudaism 5. Most importantly, a growing number of Jews are in interfaith relationships and blended families. Why would we offend them? Don’t we want our clergy to reflect our communities?

Our second-year New York rabbinical class completed an activity last week in which they wrote a trait or gift that each of them individually brings to their class community. It was very special, particularly because it was the first time their class was physically all together!

@HUCJIR Isaac Mayer Wise supported slavery. His picture is everywhere on HUC’s campuses. Tell us again how HUC honors black history?

@NiceJewishQueer There are already significantly more rabbis looking for jobs every year than there are jobs for rabbis in the Reform movement. We should absolutely make it easier for working class and disabled people to become Jewish leaders. Creating two tiers of rabbis is not the answer.

@HucRogue That's not necessarily true. Will it be different? Absolutely, and that's not a bad thing. Limiting access to rabbinical school based on capacity to move to a campus city means that many working-class and disabled folks get locked out entirely. Our communities need rabbis, too.

@NiceJewishQueer You can have all the qualifications and commitment in the world, but “low residency” will never match the depth and rigor of a full time residency program. Ever. Just saying.

@HucRogue Or maybe there are folks who can't relocate to one of the cities with a campus for any number of reasons who still have all the necessary qualifications and commitment to becoming rabbis? Just saying.
