I actually don't have any proof but I suspect it was the neighbor's dog. The hen had been sneaking beyond the fence line and nesting on her eggs under agaisnt a pine tree in the neighbors part of the woods. My wife found her body near her nesting spot with no damage aside from a slimy head. I assume the dog just broke her neck. So it's not their fault. I was afraid this would happen. Lesson learned, the other 2 ducks haven't been allowed out of the dog kennel since and we're in the process of getting them used to living in the chicken house/coop with the chickens.
She got a nice shady spot in the pet cemetery though.
