We have 57 dedicated staff members in our transportation department who travel over 605,000 combined miles per year and deliver 6,700 students to and from school safely on a daily basis. We hope everyone is having a WO-nderful spring break. Part of our Strategic Plan was to create worldwide relationships through Global Initiatives. This week we have been able to send our first group of students and chaperones to Ensemble Scolaire Catholique d’Yssingeaux in Yssingeaux, France. Our group has been busy touring local towns, shopping at local markets to make Raclette, a traditional French melted cheese dish, and spending time in class with our hosts at ESCY. Session 2 | Year 2 The topic of today’s #AdministratorAcademy is Human Resources related. Superintendent Tim Bearden and Assistant Superintendent of @HumanResourceWO Jens Milobinski walk our participants through the processes of applying, interviewing, and hiring for different jobs throughout a district. Growing and keeping our own staff is an important initiative to us. #GoWO #WeareOne

This past fall brought a frightening moment to our Transportation Garage when one of our own, Bus Driver Dan Janisse, suffered a heart attack while pulling into the transportation parking lot for work. Thanks to the quick actions of Curt Alofs, Craig Saylor, and Stacy Jones from the West Ottawa Transportation team, who pulled him from his vehicle, shut down his truck, and administered life-saving CPR, Dan has made a full recovery and is still with us today. The entire WO Transportation department had undergone CPR training in the weeks before this incident and their bravery and swift response were nothing short of heroic. Less than a month later, Dan was able to join his colleagues for a luncheon at the bus garage and thank everyone who played a crucial role in that day's events. Congratulations to the West Ottawa Select Women's Ensemble for being 1 of 4 choirs in the State to be selected to perform at Choral Hour at the 19th Annual Michigan Music Conference in Grand Rapids. This is the third selection in WOHS Choir history and is based on the performance quality of this ensemble during the past two school years. WOSWE will perform this Friday, 1/26 at 3pm in the JW Marriott Hotel Ballroom.  WO has a rich tradition of being honored at the Michigan Music Festival.  This year will be West Ottawa's 13th selected appearance at the Michigan Music Conference with various secondary music ensembles.   In addition, both @HarborLightsMS & @MacBayMS choirs will be sending students to the conference as members of the MSVMA State Honors Choir.  Students were selected to participate in the Honors Choir program after a rigorous audition process.  Please congratulate the following middle school students: Jackson Espy, Parker Addison, Lane Keller, Audrey James,Sydney Kole, J-Zelle Agenbag, Kyler DeVrou, Harrison Stolz, McKinley Spooner and Addy Eade. 2nd-grade swim lessons wrapped up the second session of the school year today. Many of the kids who were nervous to even get in the water when it started, ended the session by jumping in!
