@Hungry_Romantic In the UK, our advice has always been: it's never too late in pregnancy to get vaccinated. So if you are still pregnant, you should be okay to get boosted. (In Ireland for a bit, they tried to avoid vaccinating right before labour. But I think they changed that advice.) 1/

In some ppl, trace amounts of #CovidVaccine mRNA are found in #breastmilk up to 48h post-vaccination. But is this mRNA functional? 👉🏻 75 - 88% of it not in tact 👉🏻 Spike protein not detected 👉🏻 Gut cells given milk mRNA do not make spike protein 🧵… thelancet.com/action/showPdf…

@Hungry_Romantic Here’s some info from GP Prof Azeem Majeed. Looks like there will be vaccination centres this year, so you may be able to keep an eye on those. But it also looks like they will be doing this in order of priority… and I suspect pregnancy will not be top priority!
Professor Azeem Majeed@Azeem_Majeed

@VikiLovesFACS Covid-19 vaccines will be available at vaccine centres, pharmacies and some general practices. Flu vaccines will also be available from a range of sites (including more GP sites than for Covid vaccination). For Covid vaccines, people should be called in priority order.

As someone due to give birth in a few wks, I too am wondering (& worried) about this. There seems to be no mention of pregnant women in talk of new variant & booster prog. GP won’t/can’t offer me 1, nor can midwives (no access). @VikiLovesFACS wondering if you’ve had any updates?
AliHT@AliHT

@AlanStout19 Can I ask are pregnant women going to receive flu and COVID booster this autumn via GPs? As far as I'm aware pregnant women are still very much a clinical risk group yet many GPs refused to provide them with COVID booster last year.. Would appreciate clarification please.

Shoutout to my GP colleagues! The autumn booster programme has been brought forward, and people who are eligible due to pregnancy are getting in touch wanting to know how they arrange their booster this year. Will you call them? Should they call you? twitter.com/DHSCgovuk/stat…
Department of Health and Social Care@DHSCgovuk

This year's autumn boosters and flu vaccinations will begin earlier than planned as a precaution after a new Covid variant was identified. Vaccines will be offered to adult care home residents and those most at risk first, starting on 11 September. More: gov.uk/government/new…

@Hungry_Romantic Based on the below, I thought the walk-in clinics might reopen for the autumn boosters, but now I am not so sure. I will put a shout-out to my colleagues on the ground to see what I can find out.... 2/2 nhs.uk/nhs-services/c…

I want to talk about trust and attachment in young children. And there’s no video here for good reason. Several of you have recently tagged me to ask my thoughts on trending videos depicting parents engaging in one appalling behavior or another - in pursuit, apparently, of social media likes. In one trend, parents pretend to be FaceTiming with their child’s new kindergarten teacher and call their child over to meet her. When they get to the phone, the child comes face to face with a photo of a scary looking adult (which in some cases appear to be mugshots of women deep in the throes of drug addiction, if, in fact, they are real at all). The children are almost always alarmed. Often they cry. During one of the biggest transitions in their young child’s life (the start of school), these parents have chosen to stoke anxiety rather than provide comfort. Other recent trends have involved parents in throwing slices of American cheese at their toddlers - or, more recently, unexpectedly cracking a raw egg on their child’s forehead during a joint cooking activity. Obviously I’m not going to uplift any examples here. But I do want to address the harm these kinds of behaviors create from a developmental perspective. The years of early childhood are a time during which trust and attachment are (ideally) formed. With love, attention, and responsive caregiving, young children learn that their world is safe. They develop self worth and self esteem. These are prerequisites to both learning and healthy development. But the key to developing trust is consistency. And the behaviors in these videos - even if rare and anomalous - serve only to undermine healthy attachment between parent and child. They provide children with data points that suggest their parents can be unexpectedly and arbitrary cruel. They are a violation of hard earned trust. Some will argue that these are just jokes in good fun. They aren’t. They are the deliberate infliction of trauma, however brief, for the amusement of strangers. It should go without saying that this isn’t good for children. Please. Don’t. Just don’t.

@VikiLovesFACS Thanks so much Viki. Sadly my GP has said they don’t have access to them ahead of the programme. Maybe I will try again!!!

@Hungry_Romantic Congratulations on the upcoming addition to your family! Doctors are able to prescribe vaccines outside of the national schedule, so if you are very keen to get boosted before autumn, you may find that your GP will be willing to do this for you.

Wondering if any fellow pregnant peeps have had any luck accessing a covid booster ahead of the supposed autumn booster programme? My baby is due to arrive early Sept, so we will miss eligibility, & therefore she will be unprotected & vulnerable to it throughout the season 🤨

@SGriffin_Lab @missmayawolff @janiceplant1 @DaveBla81093404 @drclairetaylor @brownecfm @mvankerkhove @Daltmann10 @globalhlthtwit @NjbBari3 @LizStokoe @Saffiya_Khan1 @1goodtern @karamballes In the UK, the policy is that pregnant people vulnerable enough to be offered an autumn booster, but not vulnerable enough to need a spring booster. So if you're pregnant, you won't be offered a booster at the moment.

@ellaluciewrites ‘A quarter past a freckle’ is the saying I know! It’s in response to when someone asks you the time & you aren’t wearing a watch so clearly have no way of knowing (more relevant before the time of iPhones etc should add, as we now often *do* have a way of timekeeping on us!)

I've been commanded by my husband to ask my "legion" of followers whether they've heard of the phrase "a freckle past the hair" when you ask what time it is. I don't know what he's ON ABOUT.

Lately feeling like I'm having trouble sourcing artists (esp unagented) that I can add to my mental rolodex and pitch for book projects. While I don't have a specific project in mind, I want to open my virtual door to artists looking to connect!

Apparently it’s #PortfolioDay on Twitter today, so before bed I’m going to be brave and share a few of my children’s illustration-specific pieces, in the hope they may find their way to the right set of eyes!

@ellaluciewrites Ooo so thinking back, out of all the hotels I reviewed (solo) when @ BEAST mag, I’d say my faves – the ones I felt truly nailed the solo trip away vibe – were The Curtain & Batty Langley’s. Stayed at Pan Pacific recently & they do an AMAZING breakfast spread!! (& the views, wow)

I'm looking for reccos of London hotels that would be a great experience for a SOLO stay, inc working / eating / relaxing. If there's a spa and room service, even better #journorequest 📨 in bio 💘

Anyone out there been to a beach-shack restaurant they'd love to nominate as being one of the UK's best (and they have to actually be ON the beach)? I'm compiling a round-up along with lovely hotels to stay at near them. Thanks in advance for any suggestions #journorequest
