Vet school clinical win on the day was assisting in cardiac surgery on a 1 month old 2 pound puppy to correct a PDA

All cats should be on regular flea prevention! We don’t just recommend it for fun; fleas are sneaky and can be tricky to get rid of once they’re in the house.

From a Canadian firefighter who knows what’s going on: #canada #wildfire #smoke (Worth the read) “I know you may know, but people need to know and understand that most Canadian wildfire management agencies have fire “zonation” policies similar to Alaska. This means in large areas of their jurisdictions, especially in the northern part of the country, wildfires are left to run there natural course w little or no direct action or suppression. We’ll protect values at risk, ie. infrastructure, communities, critical habitat or culturally significant features on the landscape, we’ll map them and maybe try to burn them to natural barrier, fight one flank and let the rest roll (limited action) but we are not putting them out. On many of the fires we don’t even try. A number of these fires are huge boreal gobblers (I am currently assigned to a 250,000 ha fire, well over 600,000 acres and you could fit the org. chart on one side of a beer can). The only thing that is going to put out this fire out and many across the country is winter, 5 months from now. It’s going to be a long, smoky summer for everyone. You have a wide reach, it would be great if you can help people understand these dynamics in the Canadian wildfire scene when they’re bitching about the smoke. It’s especially common in these vast boreal forests. Siberia does the same thing. Identify hazards and values at risk, mitigate, let it go. Cheers.

Realizing that visiting friends doesn’t require doing elaborate things but more spending quality time together is one of the nicest things about becoming an adult

@HunterFrobose_9 I got married and had a baby during vet school, which was difficult. After vet school, you want to put that hard-earned degree to use. I'm just here to commiserate, not trying to be needlessly negative...

One thing people don’t talk about with vet school is your life becomes stagnant for 4 years, you don’t have much opportunity for big life milestones like your peers your age. Imposter syndrome isn’t with just your colleagues in school but everyone around you.

@CimsVet @NikiannaN @Cat_The_Vet I believe that comes into the factor of demand over intelligence. The breeders are making money (example: brachiocephalic breeds that cannot breath) and they see money over what’s right. I think it’s arguable that they do not see or ignore the welfare issues with their breeding

@NikiannaN @Cat_The_Vet @HunterFrobose_9 My concern would be if a breeder had really figured out that their animals had a novel condition making them particularly poor anesthetic candidates, why are those animals still being bred?

Just had an owner tell me they would only allow us to perform anesthesia on their cat if we used the protocol recommended by their breeder #vettwitter
