@LakeSipper@DanoDino86@PPhantomGray@DDDUODENO@Jojostuck56 What's more cruel, allowing a large audience to buy a 40 dollar game that will not have a translation for their language, or not taking their money at all? Even the greedy Nintendo understand not to release games with no dub (mother 3 (the game that inspired toby fox massively))
@Hunty_4KHDR@DanoDino86@PPhantomGray@DDDUODENO@Jojostuck56 So you're saying Toby Fox should just not list the game there? Specifically exclude those people?
Seems pretty cruel to those from those regions that learned a language they can play in.
@LakeSipper@DanoDino86@PPhantomGray@DDDUODENO@Jojostuck56 it shouldn't be for sale on those consoles in those regions. Almost like how, I dunno, Mother 3 is not for sale commercially in the west cause it doesn't have a official translation.
@Haurmeya Me and my friend played it and still keep making jokes about agent and Ustanak. That game is great in a way only a shitty game from 2012 could be.
“re6 is fun if you play it with a friend” me and my best friend for the last eight years played re6 to its completion and that was so bad that we were making headcanons of ada and her nonexistent gay coworker who can teleport occasionally
@georgieboat@DailyDeltarune My personal hope is that the weird route ends with nothing. Like we dont even get to see it. It would be the perfect way to prove to people doing it that their actions were completely meaningless. Kris lives, Noelle and Susie live, but we the soul get defeated and make no impact.
@DailyDeltarune am I crazy for seeing this scene and thinking the weird route might not have a bad ending. Like its not going to be good but something about what gerson says feels like it’s going to be alright in the end
@binomiko@ImtheSpicyman@LazyNick5 but there would be very few deviations to the original text, especially in comparison to japanese. English translates really easily into Spanish. One of the only major issues is what gendered pronoun kris would use, but then again Non binary people to exist in LATAM.
@Hunty_4KHDR@ImtheSpicyman@LazyNick5 Toby does not speak Spanish, so the translators would need to explain all that to him as well as justify any deviations from the direct translation in a way that he understands and agrees with
@binomiko@ImtheSpicyman@LazyNick5 it took a fan translation 10 days to get the translation out for chapters 3/4. I think toby could manage. The reason it takes a long time to translate to Japanese is because English and Japanese are entirely different languages, unlike spanish and english.
@Hunty_4KHDR@ImtheSpicyman@LazyNick5 How many lines are in the game? How many lines do you deem to be of significant importance? How many more lines does Toby deem important that we are overlooking because we can't read his mind? How easy is it to juggle localization for multiple languages on top of game dev?
@binomiko@ImtheSpicyman@LazyNick5 A lot of simple lines in the game would translate 1-1 into spanish. Aside from lines of significant importance, which toby can point out, a majority of the lines could be translated really easily.
@Hunty_4KHDR@ImtheSpicyman@LazyNick5 More leniency does not mean it is an easy or quick process. Toby needs to convey his ideas to the team, each translated sentence needs to be considered in the context of the story, every sentence needs to be run by Toby and translators need to justify their choices to him
@binomiko@ImtheSpicyman@LazyNick5 Determination in Spanish is determenacion. there's a difference between translating to Japanese and to other Anglo languages. "Determination" comes from French. The name Noelle is French. There is far more leniency with translating to Spanish than Japanese.
@Hunty_4KHDR@ImtheSpicyman@LazyNick5 If he's going to do an official translation, he wants to get it right. To get it right he needs to spend time working with the localization team. Translating to the standards of the original artist is not something that can be solved by just throwing money at it
@binomiko@ImtheSpicyman@LazyNick5 so here's an idea. He spends some of his tens of millions and hires the people already developing the fandubs he sees as adequate. Has them developing their dubs at the same time as he does his Japanese one. Its not as difficult as you make it out to be. Especially to spanish
@Hunty_4KHDR@ImtheSpicyman@LazyNick5 People can be understandably frustrated, but at the end of the day Toby does not want to provide people with an imperfect experience by his own standards. Providing players in other regions with the best possible version of his story would require a lengthy localization process
@binomiko@ImtheSpicyman@LazyNick5 people still have the right to be upset. And if he actually cared, those games wouldn't be for sale on consoles in those regions, as they arent able to use the fan translations.
@Hunty_4KHDR@ImtheSpicyman@LazyNick5 Most people in Toby's situation would be fine with a good but imperfect translation. But does he have to? No, he's an artist. Lots of artists have quirks about their work, Toby's perfectionism with regards to how the message is expressed in the text is just one example
@PPhantomGray@DDDUODENO@Jojostuck56 You do know Undertale and Deltarune have console releases right? Anyone playing on consoles are just fucked with no translation.
This wouldn't be such an issue before because Undertale was a small indie proyect but now Toby is rich as fuck and the game is still locked to ENG/JAP
@cool_duck76@Jojostuck56 another thing, imagine if mother 3 was also still available for purchase on consoles, so you cant even use the fan translations.
@Jojostuck56 This is for the english speakers, imagine being a super fan of mother 3, waiting and waiting for a oficial translation of the game in english, and then when the news arrives, the game is being translated to italian, and then the creator says what toby sayed, how would you feel?
@binomiko@ImtheSpicyman@LazyNick5 he should put the effort in. Presenting a specific message doesn't mean anything if 80% of the entire planet cant understand it.
@ImtheSpicyman@LazyNick5 He would rather ensure his work of art meets the level of quality he desires, yeah. Localization is a hefty task and he wants his story to present a specific message. This requires precise control over what makes it into the final product and lots of back and forth w/ translators
@TheSuperCenaFan@furinacunt@jeeon999 him crying and justifying that there was no other option to save his friends, and that he truly did love them cause he knew the whole time they would defeat him, as if he didnt spend the last 10 chapters murdering 80% of all humans.
@moonmiyuki281@PurrloinQueen he has absolutely no aura be for real. What does he ever do that has aura. Even his sacrifice has no aura its behind a big metal wall or it happens off screen during a fade to white.
@moonmiyuki281@PurrloinQueen He murdered countless innocents all to satisfy some silly revenge, and his redemption happens over the course of one conversation after his boss fight. Not to mention his absolute lack of any aura.
@Hunty_4KHDR@PurrloinQueen "heroic sacrifice and speeches" and you dont mention the context that by doing those he's sentencing himself to death because thats where he thinks he deserve
@DiciOdie@Hunty_4KHDR@LawofSilver@GalaxySoldier Isn’t Monster girl a kid?? what’s the difference between her and Oliver? 💀 but closest to a “kid” like character being in a gore focused game i can think of is ferra/torr from MKX
