A Congolese man died in Dublin on Friday after he was restrained by several security guards in an alleged shoplifting incident – prompting widespread anger and calls for justice. Video of the incident showed several guards on top of Yves Sakila, 35, in Dublin city centre as he cried out in distress. At one point, a guard appears to kneel on his head or neck. He later appears to become unresponsive. Police are investigating. The footage has prompted comparisons with the 2020 killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis. Local community members held a vigil on Tuesday, chanting “justice for Yves”. The Irish Council for Civil Liberties is demanding that the death be “swiftly, thoroughly and transparently investigated”.

@CapTweed @punishablepress Hey Mr Tweed Cap, can you stop pretending to not be a gay and fuck off to USA or Israel and find some far right leader to spend your remaining days gargling his balls and leave us Irish alone

@punishablepress That wasn’t a vigil today. It was an NGO theatrical performance in front of every prearranged mainstream corporate media outlet in the country.  Am fully expecting the usual leftard politicians to appear on TV tonight spreading more far right alarmism.

@punishablepress Based on your reasoning Michael - for all those Irish who died abroad - it was their fault because they shouldn’t have been there in the first place - they should have remained in Ireland

Coal ash: 1.1 billion tonnes a year. Contains lead, cadmium, arsenic, mercury. Solar waste, total, by 2050: 78 Mt of mostly glass. You picked the wrong waste stream. (nice AI image btw)
Peter Clack@PeterDClack

This isn't just a pile of debris - it’s the future of green energy waste hidden in plain sight. Millions of solar panels are hitting their end-of-life cycle, and the world is completely unprepared for the coming toxic avalanche. By 2050, the International Renewable Energy Agency projects up to 78 million metric tons of solar e-waste. Where is it all going to go? The industry boasts that solar panels are '95% recyclable'. Technically, yes - because they are made of glass, aluminum and copper. But economics always trumps physics. In Australia and the US, it costs roughly $20 to $28 to properly disassemble and recycle a single panel, but only about $4 to dump it in landfill. Because there is no financial incentive, up to 90% of decommissioned panels go straight into the ground. Each solar panel is an industrial 'sandwich' bound tightly by heavy polymers. To extract the microscopic amounts of valuable silver and high-purity silicon requires energy-intensive chemical and thermal baking. When they are crushed or left to fracture in landfills, heavy metals like lead and cadmium can leach into the surrounding soil and groundwater, turning 'clean energy' into a multi-generational hazardous waste problem. The crisis is accelerating faster than models predicted. Because solar cells degrade and lose efficiency, and because newer, cheaper panels hit the market, consumers and solar farms are ripping out functional systems at least a decade early to upgrade. This compressed lifecycle destroys the narrative of a long-term, stable asset and creates an endless loop of unrecyclable industrial trash.

@San_Fran_Psycho @lil_doza Funny how it's the black man who is accused of excessive force (that we have no video evidence of to jump to that conclusion), but the clear and obvious use of excessive force against him doesn't get called out. Stop being an apologist for what everyone can see, you little racist

@Hurley_Stick @lil_doza The man was held with the potential use of excessive force. We (you and I) are basing all opinions on video of the detainment, not what happened leading up to it. From the article below, this man had a history of theft at the same store. In short, this isn’t “murder/execution”.

🇮🇪 🇨🇩YVES SAKILA (35) a Blackman of Congolese decent who lived in Ireland since 2004 was PUBLICLY EXECUTED on Henry street,Dublin last Friday shortly after 5pm. While everyone stood and watched, more than 6 security guards took turns using excessive force holding Yves to the ground until was unconscious. The animalistic security guards are seen forcefully pressing Yves’s body onto the ground using their knees. His colleague mercilessly held his head to the ground and seen repeatedly covering Yves’s face using his hoodie. At the start Yves was responding as he struggled to move his hand grasping for air while they held him to the position for four minutes until he was unconscious. A woman with African accent in the crowd who realised Yves was unresponsive tried to question the security guards in min 2:40 but she was silenced by a dubliner within the crowd. It was at that moment the brutal security guards realised it was too late. What makes this even more disturbing is that, had the footage not emerged, many people would likely have accepted a simplified version of events without questioning what actually happened. As usual, racists are up in arms online creating propagandas to justify Yves’s execution while the family are looking for justice. The media are over highlighting the fact that Yves was allegedly involved in a minor shoplifting luckily we have the footage which clearly shows how cruel Yves Sakila was treated. Whatever was on the shelves is replaceable Yves is not. I am deeply saddened by the death of Yves Sakila. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and the wider Congolese and Black community during this painful time.

@Default69202648 It was very obvious who'd be upset with this.. the same people who love the floatilla, hate Israel, push trans ideology, crave open borders. 99% of the country isn't bothered. If he didn't supposedly steal he'd still be alive. Maybe he took a heart attack. Who knows

Just attended the vigil for Yves Sakila's death. To see the dignity of the poor mourners is quite something. “No more violence” they chant. To the Irish racists who have taken glee at this awful tragedy, you’re the absolute shame of Ireland.

@MichealMartinTD Are you going to comment on the violent death of Yves Sakila, that the Gardai attempted to suppress the circumstances of until the video started circulating? Our former Taoiseach, who you know from being in his cabinet, had some comments about people from his country.

More news on everybody's favourite cute-hoor. New Freedom of Information requests by the Irish Times just showed Michael Healy-Rae has pocketed over €370,000 from Kerry County Council since 2020 for leasing properties and providing homes under the Rental Accommodation Scheme. Payments rose from €55,566 in 2020 to €71,785 last year. But shure luk, it's not like when he was making all that he was in a position to influence the goverment on accommodation laws during a housing crisis, to be shure. Ah isnt it grand that landlords like him, who was until recently a TD, that under schemes like RAS and HAP he received his guaranteed rent paid directly from the local authorities he represents, with no need for rent collectors and full mortgage interest relief available as an expense. Ah tis grand like! Oh and thats just the Kerry end of it. He also receives payments under the Housing Assistance Payment scheme, administered nationally by Limerick City and County Council. That council refused to say how much, citing his privacy as a private individual engaged in a commercial arrangement. Aul Bertie taught him somethin! Obviously all this social housing income is on top of €1.33 million his company Roughty Properties has received for housing Ukrainian refugees since 2022, as well as a modest €1,027.50 from Kerry County Council for diesel. Diesel....oh did I mention he resigned last month as Minister of State at Agriculture over the Government's handling of fuel protests? Tis a grand aul cap on him. Ah but shure with currently 14 houses, three guest houses, a commercial unit, an apartment, and various unspecified rooms and apartments declared in the register of interest he needs a lot of diesel! That aul hat won't keep him warm. Make sure you pay your television licence and don't complain about housing or immigration you jackeens. And if you do, don't ask TDs any questions! Blame the innocent taking advantage of these laws and benefits, as they in turn are taken advantage of. And shure your paying for it all. Grand stuff to be shure!

@lil_doza The end result (Yves death) is extremely sad, I genuinely don’t believe anyone should die for shoplifting. However, stating that it’s a “PUBLIC EXECUTION” is beyond hyperbolic. By stating this you are doing exactly what you came to stand against: creating hate and fear.

@RDCongoMAE We respectfully call on the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Democratic Republic of Congo, , to urgently follow the case of Congolese national Yves Sakila, who died following a violent restraint incident in Dublin, Ireland. Videos and witness testimonies circulating publicly raise serious concerns regarding the treatment Mr. Yves Sakila was subjected to before becoming unresponsive. We respectfully ask for: - diplomatic follow-up with Irish authorities, - support for the family, - an independent and transparent investigation, - accountability if wrongdoing is established. We also call on Irish authorities and human-rights institutions to ensure that justice and transparency prevail. @kayikwambaT @RDCongoMAE @gardainfo @DeptJusticeIRL @IrishHumanRights @MigrantRightsIr @INARIreland @amnestyIRL @rtenews @IrishTimes @thejournal_ie @DublinLive @Independent_ie #JusticeForYvesSakila #JusticeForYves #BlackLivesMatterIreland
