Matthew Cage jumped in with a thought-provoking point: “Personal data needs to be collected. It is all dependent on how are you collecting, processin, sharing and leveraging it in this new AI empowered world. People have valid concerns about how thier data is used and distributed and no one really understands how AI works but if you data is going in there you should have a say over how its used." So, this week in the office, we got into a pretty lively discussion about the new NDIS regulations—you know, the kind of chat that starts with “Did you see the new support lists?” and ends with everyone brainstorming ways to make compliance sound… well, exciting. 😅 As marketers working a lot in the NDIS space, we’ve definitely felt the impact. Some of our biggest clients have been navigating these changes, and it's safe to say there’s a lot of rethinking going on. Matthew, as usual, had some thoughts to share (no surprise there): “Look, compliance isn’t something we can just ‘tick off’ anymore. These new regulations are reshaping how we engage with participants, and businesses need to be crystal clear about what they’re offering. It’s about building trust and keeping up with the new support lists—which, let’s be honest, are a bit of a game changer.” Here’s what we’ve been chewing on: 1️⃣ Defined Boundaries: The new support lists are like a rule book, spelling out what’s allowed and what’s not. If you’re not on the list, you better rethink your offering—or help clients request replacements! 2️⃣ Grace Period: For the next year, if you slip up and use something that’s not allowed (under $1,500), you’ll just get a warning. Phew! But let’s not get too comfortable, because now’s the time to get things in order. 3️⃣ Flexibility: If a service isn’t on the “allowed” list, don’t panic. There’s still a way to work within the system. We’ve been helping clients explore creative ways to stay compliant and still provide value. One of the most heated debates in the office is... “Are we moving toward a world where true personalisation of marketings and AI generated services becomes a luxury, only available to those willing to hand over their most intimate data? And what happens when consumers push back against being tracked?” Businesses are facing a new challenge: balancing personalisation with privacy. With recent changes in data privacy regulations—like the death of third-party cookies and increasing consumer demand for transparency—advertisers and marketers are having to rethink their entire approach to customer data. Matthew Cage mentioned that it is definitely a Dystopian possibility. Although the open source industry is doing everything they can to create alternative services to allow people to choose the data they share and opt in on a level that they choose themselves. Dharma Wood threw in her two cents, “The brands that succeed are going to be the ones that build trust rather than just trying to collect data for the sake of it. If consumers feel safe and empowered, they’ll willingly share information—but the days of getting that data for free are long gone.” With data privacy wars looming, it’s clear that the way we engage with consumers is about to change… again.
