Our firefighters work bravely to protect all of us — we must work to protect their safety, health, and wellbeing. It was an honor to speak at the opening for the International Firefighters Association Conference. Welcome to Washington! Thank you for having our backs, we will always have yours too. @IAFFPresident

For too long, suicide in the fire service lived in the shadows. Today, IAFF programs are helping Locals across North America train members to recognize warning signs and intervene before a crisis becomes a tragedy. 🚒 @IAFF36 brnw.ch/21x0tPk

This is what the extended response time gap looks like (red). When a ladder truck is unavailable, response distances increase and response times can follow. Our members will always respond — but they need the tools and apparatus in service to do the job safely and effectively.

The Glenn is ~63 years old, the only ice-breaking vessel and our largest marine asset on DC’s water. It’s been sidelined too often over the past decade. We’re grateful it’s operating today, but DC must prioritize funding a modern replacement to protect the public.

Marine incident 14th St bridge. Fireboat 1 enroute to assist a barge caught in ice at that location. Fireboat 1, the John Glenn, is the only vessel in this area with ice breaking capabilities. Video shown here is not from current incident. #DCsBravest

This AM, as you were waking up, your DC Firefighters were already jumping into action. Crews arrived to find fire showing and within minutes they had it under control. These fires are dangerous and unpredictable, but our members never hesitate to keep you safe. @MayorBowser
