In honor of Black History Month, we will be highlighting Black Labor Leaders all month long who built the foundations of the protections we enjoy now. We work to honor those who fought for our rights, celebrate them, and educate future generations on those who came before us.

IATSE Denounces Unprecedented and Illegal Firing of NLRB Chair Gwynne Wilcox Wilcox was removed despite her Senate-confirmed term extending until 2028. Her dismissal leaves the NLRB without a quorum, paralyzing its ability to enforce labor laws and undermining the fundamental rights of private-sector workers, including the entertainment workers represented by IATSE. This action is an egregious violation of federal law, and will be challenged in court. The NLRB is a lifeline for workers seeking justice in cases of unfair labor practices when employers violate the National Labor Relations Act. Without a functioning Board, countless workers will be left without legal recourse, and their cases buried in an ever-growing backlog. This action by the administration directly threatens entertainment workers, whose freedom to organize, negotiate fair contracts, and hold employers accountable with protections under Federal law depends on a fully operational NLRB. IATSE General Counsel Samantha Dulaney said, “This brazen dismissal of Gwynne Wilcox is a clear attack on workers’ rights and a dangerous precedent for independent federal agencies. The NLRB exists to protect workers from exploitation and ensure fair treatment in the workplace." "By dismantling its ability to enforce our nation’s labor laws, the Trump administration has put the rights of every private-sector worker at risk. This decision does not reflect strength—it reflects contempt for America’s workforce.” The firing of Wilcox is compounded by additional actions aimed at undermining the NLRB’s mission, including an email from the Office of Personnel Management encouraging federal employees to consider “deferred resignation.” These tactics signal a broader effort to weaken the enforcement of labor laws and hollow out agencies designed to serve the public good. Workers deserve a government that respects their rights and enforces laws designed to protect them. IATSE will continue to fight for entertainment workers’ rights, and communicate on how the actions of the second Trump administration affect them.

🚨 BREAKING: IATSE REACHES TENTATIVE AGREEMENT WITH STUDIOS, AMPTP ON HOLLYWOOD BASIC AGREEMENT. The agreement is now pending ratification by our membership.

🚨 Negotiations Update: Hollywood Basic General Negotiations Week 3 Wraps With New Bargaining Dates Expected In June, ASA Talks Set to Start The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) completed a third week of Basic Agreement General Negotiations on Thursday following their restart on April 29th.   Bargaining topics this week included retirement and health benefits, as well as further exchanges around artificial intelligence (AI), wages and working conditions, subcontracting, the Videotape Agreement and Sideletters. IATSE’s goals during these negotiations remain enhanced contract language covering safety, subcontracting and working conditions, guardrails around the deployment of new AI technologies and updated contract terms that ensure economic stability for members and their families. International President Matthew D. Loeb stated, “We are working toward setting additional bargaining dates to continue to negotiate the deal our members deserve.” “Talks remain ongoing and we are focused on achieving the goals we came to the table with: improved wages and safer working conditions, consistent funding for our benefit plans, reasonable AI and subcontracting protections, and appropriate enhancements to our Videotape Agreement and Sideletters.” The Hollywood Basic Crafts, which includes @Teamsters Local 399, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 40 (@IBEW ) and Laborers International Union of North America Local 724 (@LIUNA!), among others, joined the IATSE Basic Negotiating Committee for the benefits portion of the talks on Wednesday and Thursday.  Talks now shift to the Area Standards Agreement (ASA) negotiations starting May 20. Meanwhile, Basic Agreement negotiations are expected to restart in early June. Both agreements expire July 31 and the Negotiating Committees are not interested in an extension.

🚨 Negotiations Update: 2nd Week of Hollywood Basic General Negotiations With AMPTP Wraps Following Discussion On AI, Wages and Working Conditions The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) completed a second week of Basic Agreement General Negotiations on Friday following their restart on April 29th. Bargaining topics this week included proposals covering artificial intelligence (AI), wages and working conditions, subcontracting, the Videotape Agreement and Side Letters.  International President Matthew D. Loeb stated, “The goal of these negotiations is to ensure that our contracts keep pace with the rapid evolution of the entertainment industry. In many cases, the language in the previous agreements no longer works for our members. We are constructively engaging with employers to upgrade it and adapt our contracts to current working conditions.” Talks remain ongoing and are scheduled to be active through May 16, after which negotiations for the Area Standards Agreement (ASA) will begin on May 20th and run through May 31. An additional day for ASA talks was added on Tuesday May 28th, following the Memorial Day holiday. Overall, ASA negotiations will cover issues like wage increases, pension and health contributions, artificial intelligence (AI), quality of life conditions, job security and benefits funding.

🚨 NEGOTIATIONS UPDATE: Locals 80, 706 Reach Tentative Agreements with AMPTP, Basic and Area Standards Schedules to Shift in May Last week, three West Coast Studio Locals of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) reached tentative agreements with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP). Make-up Artists & Hair Stylists Guild, Local 706, reached a tentative agreement with the AMPTP on March 27 while Local 80 reached a tentative agreement with the employers on March 28. It was previously announced Local 695 had reached a tentative agreement with the employers on Monday, March 25. Following a one-day break for the holiday weekend, Locals 728 and 871 started in-person bargaining with the AMPTP on Monday April 1. Later this week, Local 892 is slated to sit down with the AMPTP while Motion Picture Editors Guild, IATSE Local 700, is also set to resume its negotiations. To date, six of the thirteen West Coast Studio Locals (80, 600, 695, 706, 800, and 729) have reached tentative agreements with the employers. More information regarding these Local agreements will be provided to members by their Local Unions once Memorandums of Agreement have been formally drafted by the lawyers of both parties and submitted to the corresponding Local for approval. Meanwhile, IATSE and the AMPTP have agreed to adjust the bargaining schedule for The Basic General and Area Standards (ASA) Negotiations. Following the conclusion of Local negotiations, which began on March 18, the revised tentative schedule will be for Basic Agreement Negotiations to run from April 29 through May 16. On May 20, ASA negotiations will start and are set to run through May 31. ASA negotiations were previously scheduled to start on April 29. IATSE International Vice President Mike Miller commented, “This revised schedule will help ensure that all Locals covered under the ASA and Basic Agreements have ample time to address their craft-specific issues with the employers. I also want to commend the Negotiating Committees of the West Coast Studio Locals who have already reached tentative agreements with the AMPTP for their hard work and dedication." Finally, IATSE is stepping up its calls for ALL film and tv sisters, brothers, and kin, and the broader labor movement to participate in #OneFightFridays, and wear union swag each Friday for the remainder of the negotiations to visually showcase our power and unity across the country.
