Thanks to everyone who visited 'A Royal Bed and a Northern Rogue', which closes today. The bed is such an important piece of history marking the end of the War of the Roses & the beginning of the Tudor dynasty 🌹 We've loved hosting this exhibition! @IANCOULSON2 @PeterNLindfield

Impact in action last night @chethamslibrary; part of my co-curated exhibition & @ahrcpress interpretation project…more to architect George Shaw than a #Tudor #furniture #forger, & everyone in the large audience went away with a new appreciation of his genius & personality.

Very much looking forward to giving this free public lecture next Wednesday on #architect #GeorgeShaw: one of Britain’s most prolific, but, until recently, largely forgotten #forgers of #Tudor #furniture, including this ‘four-poster’ made for the 4th Duke of Northumberland.

@SomelikeitDan @Lucy_Worsley An updated film with a new understanding of the provenance here youtu.be/R0NSiEW-7rk?si… We now know the bed stayed in the royal collection and was part of Elizabeth I's bed museum at Windsor Castle until it was gifted to Nicholas Mosley in 1600 at his knighthood.

Spent the morning with a lovely gentleman who works in the beds department of John Lewis. He added much-needed glamour to the process of choosing a new mattress with his tales of how he once sold Joan Collins a sofa-bed.

Buried in the Greyfiars Church a few days later. Henry vii backdated his reign making it treason to have fought against him. Did this result in mass executions? No. Indeed Henry was generous in victory. He declared that the ordinary men should be allowed to return home unmolested

@arthistorynews His marriage bed stood in the Painted Chamber in front of the mural of the Coronation of St Edward the Confessor . Henry used the Painted Chamber as a bed Chamber in the hope of establishing a spiritual link to the saintly king.

The Battle of Bosworth Field was on this day in 1485. When he died, Henry VII wanted an effigy of himself to be placed in Westminster Abbey holding in his hands the actual crown he won at Bosworth from Richard III. The effigy was to sit on top of the tomb of Edward the Confessor. 1/3

The first talk is tonight by @IANCOULSON2 who discovered the bed, and the one on Wednesday is by Helen Hughes on the bed’s fragments of medieval paint caught under the Victorian varnish.
