Today, we honor Dr. Peggy Hinckley, the first female superintendent to be named Indiana Superintendent of the Year. Dr. Hinckley was honored for leading with vision, dedication, and a commitment to student success. Dr. Butts had the honor of presenting a plaque to Jim Robinson, the husband of the late Dr. Wendy Robinson, long-time Indiana Superintendent, recognizing her extraordinary legacy of leadership and service in public education. Dr. Robinson attended K-12 and graduated from Fort Wayne Community Schools. She spent her entire professional career, spanning more than 40 years, including more than 20 years as superintendent in that district, and was widely respected for her impact on students, schools, and the community. Her many honors included being named AASA National Superintendent of the Year (2018), one of Education Week’s Leaders to Learn From, and a recipient of the Indiana Civil Rights Commission Chairman’s Award / Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Award, among many others. As we celebrate Women’s History Month, we remember and honor Dr. Robinson’s lasting influence and the path she helped pave for future generations of educational leaders. #LeadIAPSS

Ryan Abbott, Superintendent of DeKalb County Eastern CSD, values every opportunity to connect directly with his students. Through the district’s Book Buddy program, he visits elementary classrooms once a month to read a book aloud and leave it with the class to enjoy throughout the school year.
