@m_stormwitch @neon_heartbeat Also let's not forget that Flanagans adaptations ALWAYS change the original story in some pretty hefty ways. Not saying its exactly the same as thr book, but its not supposed to be. Hes making Margaret a good guy now, so im willing to see his interpretation

I was ready to hear Flanagan out but I opened the article and saw that we're completely erasing the troubles in the relationship between Carrie and her mother and also taking away the religious fanaticism. And that's taking away the core imo.

@m_stormwitch @neon_heartbeat Idk this just seems like a difference in approach. Make home nice to shelter and keep her away from the outside. Dont let her out. Dont punish her, but still keep her unable to make connections outside of home. The effect on Carrie is similar

@m_stormwitch @neon_heartbeat Am I crazy or does this not just mean carries mom will still be over protective and sheltering? This doesnt seem like she's gonna be a good guy all of a sudden, just a different (and more true-to-modern-day) kind of bad parent

Curry Barker says ensuring that Nikki is accurately portrayed as a victim in ‘OBSESSION’ was just as important as making her scary in the film. “What you’re left with is a really tragic story about a man & a woman & leaning into the realism of that was really important.”

@reb00tedmak0 @KDKactual @realzwood @billbria I mean I guess. It freed her, yes, and thats good. But i truly dont think he killed himself to free her, but rather to get himself out of the situation. I mean, he left her with all of her dead friends that she had killed. Either Nikki went to prison, or she killed herself too

One additional observation I had rewatching OBSESSION was that yes, it’s nice that everyone is picking up on who the real villain of the film is. Yet one of the smartest things the film does is let the relationship(s) soak in so much murky ambiguity.

@sagemode87 @TheWojBombers @DiscussingFilm Yeah great sacrifice man, leaving a woman--who was already forced to watch her body do things she never would have done for weeks--alone with all of her dead friends that she had murdered. Nikki for sure went to prison after the movie was over, if she didnt kill herself too

@KDKactual @realzwood @billbria He asks to alter the wish (not cancel it), he asks for her to "act like nikki" (not for the real Nikki to come back), he says "is it so bad being with me?" When the real Nikki begs him to kill her, and (big spoilers) he kills himself at the end, leaving real Nikki to live with it

@TheWojBombers @DiscussingFilm Hes for sure not a monster, but also not a good dude. He was more focused on Nikki loving him than her actually being happy, shown by him begging her to "just act like nikki," not for real Nikki to come back. He wants normal Nikki, and he wants the wish God I love that movie

@DiscussingFilm Nikki def is a victim, but I also don’t think Bear was a monster…no one in their right mind would actually think that wish stick would work, and even though he had multiple chances to end it all and chose a selfish route, that’s still a rlly tough position to be in too

@jayweingarten I think I see the problem here. He was speaking of the bear cartoon character, but you assumed he meant feces. Oops!

@AmeliaHammy @Arockalyps You can get on a boat in downtown Omaha, Nebraska and float down the Missouri River to the Mississippi River to the Gulf of America to the Atlantic Ocean and over to England and right up the Thames and not even go through a ship lock until east of London.

@jmceknives @zaklito @Grand_Ole_Evan Blues was born from a combination of those struggles and the culture that they brought over with them. Nothing exists in a vacuum, and both things can be true

@zaklito @Grand_Ole_Evan And that pain was born in America from the struggle of our ancestors here. The line does fit the character he was an old blues man not a history teacher. But to say it’s historically something we brought here is not honoring the history of a people

Running over someone’s foot with a wheelchair is an accident. I cannot stress enough the coprolalia is more like asking someone who is having a seizure to apologise for hitting you in the face as they seized.
Arlen Parsa@arlenparsa

I absolutely have sympathy for people who struggle with disabilities. But if you use a wheelchair and accidentally run over someone’s foot you instantly apologize The lack of any apology whatsoever from him — after hurting so many people— sets his own cause back. BBC failed too.
