The Biomedical Scientist magazine reports on a new trial in the UK using an investigational mRNA vaccine to protect people against potential influenza pandemics, such as avian flu.
It is a large-scale phase 3 trial that will involve around 4000 adult volunteers aged 18 and over in the UK and the US.
The project will assess the safety and immune response of an investigational mRNA-based A(H5) pandemic influenza vaccine candidate, mRNA-1018, which is commonly circulating in birds and has pandemic potential.

NICE has given the green light to two tests it says will help rapidly reduce the time it takes for women to be told whether they have endometriosis.
Endotest analyses a saliva sample for tiny biological markers called microRNAs, which can indicate whether endometriosis is likely present, while EndoSure can detect the condition by measuring electrical signals in the gut using sensor pads on the abdomen.
The tests, which will be made available to patients in England and Wales, are not designed to be standalone tests but should ensure that women are diagnosed much faster.
