At #NPT2023, Austria, Mexico, UK + Norway deliver joint statement on the principle of irreversibility of nuclear disarmament. They note efforts to elaborate this principle isn’t an end in itself. It's in compliance with spirit + letter of Article VI, but is not a prerequisite.

Several states at the #NPTPrepCom so far have expressed hope that work on strengthening the review process, particularly on transparency & accountability, will continue despite the Working Group's inability to adopt recommendations.

Costa Rica tells #NPT2023 it rejects nuclear weapon modernisation, which is not consistent with legal obligations for disarmament. Any threat to use this weapons also goes against international law.
