ICIEC participated as a speaker at ExCred International 2026, held on 24–25 February in London, contributing to the plenary session on “Update on Sovereign Risk and Debt Sustainability.” The discussion centered on debt sustainability challenges and restructuring dynamics across key African markets, with particular focus on Ethiopia, Kenya, Ghana, and Zambia. ICIEC highlighted the critical role of multilateral insurers during periods of sovereign distress, emphasizing how its preferred creditor status and risk mitigation solutions help preserve investor confidence, sustain trade and investment flows, and support orderly restructuring environments. ICIEC’s intervention underscored how political risk and credit insurance instruments can act countercyclically in times of stress, enabling continued access to finance, protecting cross-border transactions, and supporting recovery pathways even in non-member countries where market stability has broader regional implications. ICIEC was pleased to welcome Dr. Tariq Abulsalam Omer, Managing Director and General Manager of Shiekan Insurance and Reinsurance Company (Sudan), who led a senior delegation on a visit to ICIEC Headquarters on 12 February 2026. ICIEC conducted a targeted capacity development programme in collaboration with Takaful Libya technical team reinforcing its commitment to strengthening insurance and reinsurance and launching the Takaful insurance product in Libya during 2026. The programme focused on enhancing technical expertise in credit and political risk insurance, underwriting practices, risk assessment frameworks, reinsurance, policy administration, legal and claims and Shariah-compliant insurance solutions. Through interactive sessions and knowledge exchange, participants explored practical approaches to structuring risk mitigation instruments that support trade facilitation, private sector growth, and sustainable investment. This initiative reflects ICIEC’s ongoing efforts to build institutional capacity within the OIC insurance ecosystem, promote best practices, and foster stronger collaboration between national insurers and multilateral partners. Strategic Partnerships at the Core of ICIEC’s Trade Mission In 2024, ICIEC advanced its mission by forging strategic partnerships to drive trade, investment, and sustainable economic development across Member States and beyond. 📌 A landmark MoU was signed with the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) to boost trade and investment between ICIEC Member States and Japan, with a strong emphasis on renewable energy and climate action in Central Asia. 📌 Another key MoU was established with the Korea Overseas Infrastructure and Urban Development Corporation (KIND) to support Public-Private Partnership (PPP) projects in infrastructure and clean energy across Member States. 📌 Additionally, ICIEC is actively collaborating with partners of the Arab-Africa Trade Bridges (AATB) Program to expand trade and investment flows, strengthening cross-regional economic ties. Today, ICIEC welcomed a high-level delegation from Côte d’Ivoire, led by Mr. Lanciné Diaby, Director General of the External Financing Directorate, Ministry of Finance and Budget. The meeting highlighted the strategic importance of Côte d’Ivoire’s Middle East roadshow in deepening engagement with regional financiers and development partners, and in advancing the mobilization of financing for priority development projects. ICIEC reaffirmed its long-standing partnership with Côte d’Ivoire and its strong commitment to supporting the country’s development agenda. Discussions emphasized the alignment between Côte d’Ivoire’s infrastructure pipeline and ICIEC’s mandate to facilitate trade and investment through tailored risk mitigation solutions.
