The $KAS Testnet 12 PR has been merged! 🚀 TN12 is the Kaspa test network running covenants, a feature introduced via KIP-17. Kaspa covenants let UTXOs enforce rules on how they’re spent in the future. Using new introspection opcodes, scripts can inspect the spending transaction and only allow it if specific conditions are met. This enables native tokens, smart vaults, congestion control, trustless L1↔L2 bridges, and more.

During 2025, I experienced this strange phenomenon. As the year progressed and I studied deeper into crypto and Kaspa, I've become increasingly convinced, while the market price kept dropping. Regardless of price action, 2025 was a successful year, it laid the groundwork for exciting developments to bear fruit in 2026. You see, for a decentralized financial system, 3 main components need to come together- 1- Decentralized, scalable, and secure base layer - We need a protocol that encourages as many users/computers to participate and form a system which processes and advances the state of events, in a secure and fast way. 2- Expressiveness/programmability - The system must support running financial applications. Transactions should be able to trigger complex operations or else, we will be left with only the ability to move coins from here to there. 3- Real-world connectivity - The system must observe and access information from beyond itself. We need access to global market prices and world events , ​​reliably and in real time. Otherwise, the system remains blind to reality. We can think of these as layers of a distributed computer that is in charge of processing the world's financial logic. Designing each layer contains many challenges and tradeoffs. When built right, each layer should promote decentralization, while also remaining secure and scalable. 1- The base layer is like hardware. It dictates the processing capability of the computer. 2- Programmability is like the operating system, allowing building and running code/apps on the computer. 3- Real-world connectivity is like the internet connection, allowing the computer to receive outside information so apps and users can act upon it. In 2025 Kaspa matured significantly: The entire codebase rewrite was completed -The new Rust codebase allowed for both increasing bps, and also supported further developments due to cleaner architecture. -The intensive research efforts crystallized into concrete proposals for the programmability layer (vProgs), and a real-world connectivity (aka RealTimeDecentralization). These will allow us to build and strengthen across the 3 different layers - 1- DAGKNIGHT- upgrading the base layer consensus protocol to one which will be self-adjusting. This will allow the base layer to stay fast and secure not only in current internet conditions, but for any possible internet conditions. Be it a third world war or Kaspa nodes in outer space. 2- vProgs solves the inherent tension of programmability, enables programs to communicate and scale under a single unified system while preserving speed, security, and decentralization. 3- RTD will allow Kaspa a live connection to the internet by promoting miners to feed internet events into the network. This will allow decentralized products that could never before exist. Programs could read the internet in real time, due to the fast and parallel block creation, without adding trust layers. To me, Kaspa is exciting because it's tackling the hardest problems in DeFi, the right way. Digits on a screen all look the same, and it's hard to distinguish shiny from gold. This year in crypto we saw bugs causing cascading mass liquidations, bridge hacks, and chain reverts. Only when shit hits the fan is the true security and trustworthiness of a system revealed. Everyone who cares about a fair financial economy should be excited about Kaspa in 2026. The solutions being built are fundamental and necessary. We all want and need them, even if most of us don't realize it yet.
