It’s funny he says all of this because he’s exactly the character he’s describing here. He was trained in economics, but never did any real research. Worked as an analyst for a bit, got into writing revisionist Hindutva pop histories and got his EAC role through *that*.
Indians suffer from the Tocqueville effect, where despite improving socio-economic conditions & opportunities, frustration grew ten folds & complaints of things “becoming worse” than before, as everyone prior was poor but now condition varies & expectations higher than before.

Probably a hot take but I don't think people should be having kids even when they can afford. we have finite resources we are already 8 billion. there is not need to keep population growing.
