Ten years ago, the UN Security Council unanimously adopted Resolution 2286 on health care in armed conflicts. The situation is even worse compared to 10 years ago. Today, we mark not an achievement - we mark a failure. States and all parties to armed conflict must comply with the rules protecting health care. The obligation to “respect and ensure respect” for international humanitarian law requires states not only to abide by these rules themselves, but also to use all possible influence to ensure that other states and parties to conflict do the same. 📍Lebanon | Under fire, lives change in seconds. Families are torn apart, survivors are pulled from the rubble, carrying losses too heavy for words. For many, the impact lingers long after the violence ends. Civilians must be protected from the effects of hostilities.

📍Sumy Region, Ukraine | In rural areas, families face challenges in sustaining their livelihoods amid ongoing hostilities. 🥔 We recently supported 100 families with potato seeds and financial assistance, helping them resume farming and maintain their agricultural activities.

Through our partnership with Human Study, we’re supporting the next generation of prosthetic & orthotic specialists in Ukraine. Investing in skills today helps improve rehabilitation services for those who need them most.

📍Afghanistan | We recently supported 17,000 families affected by armed conflict in Kamdesh and Barg-e-Matal, Nuristan, with food assistance and medical supplies. After weeks of isolation and hardship, a joint effort by the @ICRC_af, @ARCSAfghanistan, and @WFP_Afghanistan restored access to vital aid.

In Bilka village, Sumy Region, 100 families received seed potatoes & cash assistance from the ICRC to help them rebuild and grow their community 🥔🚜 For many in Bilka, farming is more than work – it is life. “We’ll grow crops, sell some, and make a bit of money,” says Anzhela.

Ainur's son, Ruslan, is missing in action. Every day, she and her husband call his phone, hoping he will pick up. But no one ever answers. This is daily life for thousands of families whose loved ones are missing in action or in captivity. They will continue to wait and hope.

When humanitarian workers and volunteers are not protected, the people we serve are the ones who suffer the most. Violence against humanitarians must stop.

For decades, northern Israel has endured the consequences of armed conflict. To support communities, we worked with partners at the Community Stress Prevention Center to establish a trauma centre that is already helping people affected by hostilities to recover.
