I accepted the Letters of Credence from Non-Resident Ambassador of Ireland to the Co-operative Republic of Guyana, Martin Gallagher, at the Office of the President on Shiv Chanderpaul Drive. Ambassador Gallagher and I explored opportunities to deepen collaboration and investment between Guyana and Ireland in key areas including health, technology, energy, climate resilience, food security and production, education, and digitalisation. I also encouraged Ireland to join the Global Biodiversity Alliance, which Guyana is spearheading. Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hugh Todd, and Ambassador Ivan Evelyn were among those present at the accreditation ceremony.

On 17 March, we remember with deep affection our dear colleague and friend, Ambassador Jim Kelly. Jim was an outstanding diplomat and a generous colleague who served 🇮🇪 with distinction, including on the UN Security Council 2021-22. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.

Ahead of St Patrick’s Day we celebrate Ireland’s place in the world and our many connections. We pay special tribute to Irish people who have made their mark on communities everywhere. Wishing you a safe and happy St Patrick’s Day.

Comhghairdeas Jessie! Jessie Buckley: a primeira irlandesa a ganhar o Oscar de Melhor Atriz. Que momento! É fantástico ver Jessie sendo reconhecida no maior palco do mundo. Toda a Irlanda está muito orgulhosa. 🇮🇪

What a week in Brazil meeting with Ministers to strengthen ties between Ireland and Brazil. A huge thank you to the Ambassador and his team for setting up a fantastic program here for St Patrick’s celebrations 🇧🇷🇮🇪

A very interesting and forward-looking discussion with Brazil’s COP30 President, Correa do Lago, on Brazil’s experience and lessons from the Presidency, and on the shared plans and priorities of Ireland and Brazil for our citizens as we look ahead to COP31.
