The Colombian Red Cross welcomed and supported 5,800 people returning to the country through a compassionate, deeply human response at El Dorado Airport in Bogotá. It was one visible example of a much broader commitment: being present for people at critical moments along their migration journeys.

When community health workers and volunteers are attacked, people already living through conflict and crisis can lose access to essential care. Their protection is not optional. It is essential to keeping communities safe and healthy.

In conflicts and crises, health services must be respected and protected to reach people when they need it most. National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies run more than 5,600 health facilities worldwide, providing services that communities trust and rely on every day. #ProtectHumanity

On 3 May, we mark the 10th anniversary of the UN Security Council Resolution 2286, a critical reminder that health care must be respected and protected, always. Protecting health care means protecting lives. Safe access to medical services, the protection of health workers, and the respect of medical facilities are not optional, they are essential to keeping communities safe. Across the IFRC network, National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies run more than 5,600 health facilities worldwide, providing services that communities trust and rely on every day, especially in times of crisis. Health care is only possible when those who provide it are protected. Attacks against medical and humanitarian personnel must stop. It's a moral and legal imperative.

In places affected by conflict, violence against those providing care and assistance has deeply affected the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, including National Societies, whose volunteers and community health workers are often on the front lines of response. Medical and humanitarian personnel are protected under different rules of international humanitarian law, but both must be respected and protected at all times. They must not be attacked, threatened, or obstructed from carrying out their work. States and parties to conflict have the power and the responsibility to prevent such acts and ensure respect for their obligations under IHL.

Too many journeys end in silence. Since 2014, more than 80,000 people have died or gone missing along migration routes worldwide. Behind each number is a person, a family, a story that deserved a different ending. At the International Migration Review Forum 2026 happening next week in New York, the @IFRC will launch its Global Migration and Displacement Platform, bringing together 191 National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies to better protect people on the move. Building on our route-based migration work and Humanitarian Service Points around the world, the Platform will support people across the full journey: in communities of origin, along migration routes, and in destination countries. Our ambition: to support 100 million people by 2030 with protection, dignity and the chance to rebuild. ifrc.org/press-release/… ifrc.org/press-release/…

Ahead of the International Migration Review Forum in New York, our focus is clear: to strengthen support for people on the move at the most critical stages of their journeys. Since the first IMRF in 2022, the IFRC has supported more than 18 million people every year through our route-based approach, working across countries of origin, transit and destination with health care, shelter, information, psychosocial support and other essential services. 🎙️@ZSimperingham

The announcement of a ceasefire early this month was a welcome relief. The reality on the ground, however, is very different. The impact of weeks of intense conflict is deeper than what the headline suggests. The consequences are still unfolding, and will continue to be felt by @Iranian_RCS for months and years to come. The @IFRC is scaling up its support. This includes a revised emergency appeal of CHF120 million to serve 10 million people and meet increasing needs. 🎙️@CCortezIFRC

“Every time they go on a mission, they hug each other goodbye, unsure if they will return.” @Xcastel In Lebanon, @RedCrossLebanon emergency medical teams are saving lives under unimaginable conditions. Fear is constant, but so is their commitment to humanity. They ask for one thing: protection, so they can carry out their mission without fear. The @IFRC emergency appeal is only 12.5% funded, putting critical lifesaving support at risk. The world must act to protect those saving lives and ensure communities receive the support they urgently need. Learn more: donate.redcrossredcrescent.org/ifrc/lebanon-c…

In Beirut and beyond in Lebanon, the humanitarian crisis is deepening. Families forced from their homes speak not only of loss, but of their dignity being taken away. @RedCrossLebanon volunteers on the frontlines ask for one thing: protection. Despite immense needs, the @IFRC emergency appeal for Lebanon is only 12.5% funded. This means critical support may soon be reduced when it’s needed most. We cannot fail communities already facing crisis after crisis. We call on the international community to act with solidarity, with urgency, and with humanity. 🎙️@TDellaLonga

Today, more than ever, Lebanon & the @RedCrossLebanon need everyone’s support, the @IFRC emergency appeal remains severely underfunded and support is needed to continue humanitarian assistance to people affected by the recent escalations and the economic crisis that’s deepening.
IFRC Middle East and North Africa@IFRC_MENA

“Lebanon is facing crisis after crisis. The Lebanese people are economically suffocated. Humanitarian aid can only help a little.” — @SamiFakhouri6, in his interview with @FRANCE24. In #Lebanon, humanitarian needs continue to grow amid widespread displacement and prolonged uncertainty for hundreds of thousands of people. On the ground, the @RedCrossLebanon, with the support of the @ifrc, continues to deliver essential assistance. But the scale of the crisis far exceeds available resources. Stronger international support is urgently needed to sustain the response and support affected communities over time.

In Beirut, families are living in makeshift tents, without reliable access to clean water and essential services. Today, 1 in 5 people in Lebanon, around 1.2 million, are displaced. This reality is visible across many parts of the country. The @IFRC continues to support efforts on the ground through the @RedCrossLebanon. 🎙️ @TDellaLonga

Lebanon has endured conflicts, economic crisis, and displacement, hosting refugees while now facing a new wave of internal displacement affecting 1 in 5 people across the country. The needs are overwhelming, yet funding for the emergency response is only at 12.5%. Without urgent global solidarity, critical support will fall short. The @IFRC and the @RedCrossLebanon are on the ground, but they cannot do it alone. 🎙️ @TDellaLonga

In Cox’s Bazar, one of the world’s largest refugee settlements, families have been living in displacement for nearly a decade. "Yes, the needs are still overwhelming. But what gave me hope this time was something quieter, yet powerful: women coming together. Listening to each other. Supporting each other. Finding ways forward, together." - @HelenBrunt With the @BDRCS1 alongside them, this is what community-led action really looks like. At the @IFRC, we’re here to stand with them, not just today, but for as long as they need.
