During the first Gulf War, a British co-worker at MicroProse Software mocked Americans because we had freedom of speech. He said, "In Britain, when we are dealing with a sensitive government issue, we bring all the reporters into a room and tell them exactly what is going on, then tell them that they are all under the Official Secrets Act and they can't post a single thing about what we just said or any reference to it. You Yanks have to try to hide everything from your reporters, because you can't just jail them if they write the wrong thing."
He was so proud.

Cantonese is a niche regional dialect in southern China's Guangdong province ("Canton") and Hong Kong. In fact, Cantonese has way more overlap with Vietnamese. Both have 6 tones and have a bunch of overlapping vocabulary.
The reason why westerners think Cantonese equates to Mandarin Chinese is quite simple. Canton is historically a dirt-poor area that experiences regular natural disasters and famines. In addition, its capital Guangzhou has been an international port for millenia**.
All these combined together means the Cantos love moving abroad seeking better fortunes. For example, the railroad workers that went to America were disproportionally Cantonese, and they set up Chinatowns everywhere in the states. Anyways, the Chinese that foreigners see in their lands were mostly Cantos, until immigration from recent decades. Hence the misconception and confusion. (It also does not help that many Chinese American influencers refer to Cantonese as simply "Chinese" in their (admittedly hilarious) videos.)
So yes, I get why westerners perceive Cantonese as a primary language of China that rivals Mandarin, but in China that is totally not the case at all. Anyone who learns Cantonese over Mandarin is simply wasting their time (unless they are big Hong Kong cinema fans and/or want to fully integrate into local Hong Kong culture).
** side note: Guangzhou was an important maritime silk road destination way back in the Han dynasty.

The animation is... okay...... when the focus is above the characters' waists. It's the walk cycles that really bug me.
