The story of Van Halen's beginnings. Eddie Van Halen and Alex Van Halen started out playing at high school parties, in backyards, and at small venues under various names, such as Broken Combs, Trojan Rubber Company, and Mammoth. Eddie sang and played guitar at the same time, but he didn’t like being the lead singer. In 1974, they were joined by David Lee Roth, a charismatic singer who rented them sound equipment, and Michael Anthony on bass, completing the classic lineup. They changed the name to Van Halen, using the brothers’ surname, which sounded powerful and unique. In 1978, they released their debut album, Van Halen, recorded in just a few weeks. It was an explosive hit that sold millions and included anthems like “Runnin’ with the Devil,” “Eruption,” “You Really Got Me,” and “Ain’t Talkin’ ‘Bout Love.” The album revolutionized hard rock and turned Van Halen into superstars almost overnight.
