IJC’s mission is to recruit, train, and populate the immigration field with the highest quality legal advocates to create a new generation of leaders with a lifelong commitment to immigrant justice. IJC Fellows work every day to represent immigrants in need.

Earlier this month, the Justice Department's Board of Immigration Appeals issued Matter of Bolivar-Bolivar, a decision that fundamentally weakens due process in immigration court. This would be unthinkable in any other court system. In immigration court, it is now the law.

IJC has trained and mobilized more than 500 Fellows to provide quality counsel and advocacy to date. Our alumni network represents an active and unprecedented community sharing legal resources, knowledge and mentorship on behalf of immigrants in need.

Through our fellowship programs, IJC seeks to close the gap in access to representation and move the needle toward a universal right to counsel for all immigrants. Our Fellows are part of that effort to ensure every immigrant in the United States has access to quality counsel.

Casey Mangan, a 2020 Justice Fellow, dove into detention work when he began his fellowship. But he quickly learned he had to find a balance to make the work sustainable. And now he wants to teach young attorneys how to find their balance too. justicecorps.org/news/where-are…

Detention and denial of due process aren’t solutions. They are cruel policy choices. What our communities need is a fair chance to defend their rights. Our Fellows work every day to represent immigrants in need. IJC has served over 135,000 immigrants and their family members.

IJC has 133 active Fellows in the field, working at host organizations across the country. Chosen for their talent and compassion, our Fellows work with detained immigrants, asylum seekers, families, and children in need of immigration legal services.

We were so excited to come together this week for our second annual Alumni and Fellow Convening! The convening focused on detention representation, with panels covering federal practice and habeas corpus updates, mental health and wellbeing in detained work, and more.

According to the American Bar Association, only 41% of lawyers in the U.S. were women. We're so excited to share that more than 75% of IJC Fellows are women! During Women's History Month, we want to shout out our female Fellows, working hard to represent immigrants in need.

When due process becomes optional, it threatens all Americans. People who follow the law and attend immigration court proceedings should be able to do so safely and encounter a fair system. But right now, that’s far from the reality for our communities.
