I always pray that God prepares my heart before I read and summarize God’s word.
Today’s Devotion is from Our Daily Inspirations App, titled “God’s Commandment with Promise” by Pastor Ken and Joyverse. The key verse is Ephesians 6:1-3: “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. ‘Honor your father and mother,’ which is the first commandment with a promise: ‘that it may be well with you, and you may live long on the earth’”
Exodus 20:12 says, “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land which the Lord your God gives you.” This commandment to honor one’s parents is for a child’s physical and spiritual good. God gives examples throughout the Bible of the blessings and benefits to the children who honor their parents. We as parents want what is best for our children, even though, like Rebekah, we might go about it the wrong way to do what is best for our children (Genesis 27).
Hall of Famer Magic Johnson attributes his success to His father and mother. Their upbringing influenced him to want to help and save the world. After he caught AIDS through unprotected sex, he changed the narrative around HIV from a “gay disease” to a public issue that can affect anyone. He founded an organization that focused on HIV/AIDS awareness, prevention, and educational empowerment in underserved communities. To conclude, when we honor our parents, we honor God. When we honor God, He honors us.
Reflections for you(us): In what ways do you honor your parents? How can you honor them even more?
This is my response, which might differ from yours: Both my parents are dead and have gone home to the Lord. However, I still want to honor them by serving God.
A personal prayer for us: Dear Lord, please help us to honor our parents as You have commanded us to do. Thank You for being the perfect parent in our lives. May we reflect You in all we do. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

I always pray that God prepares my heart before I read and summarize God’s word.
Today’s Devotion is from Our Daily Inspirations App, titled “Jesus Is Your Righteousness” by Sam. The key verse is Isaiah 32:17-18: “The work of righteousness will be peace, and the effect of righteousness, quietness and confidence forever. My people will live in a peaceful habitation, in safe dwellings, and in quiet resting places.”
When I first read Isaiah 32:17-18, especially the last part, the first thing that came to mind was an impending invasion. I assumed it would be Israel doing the invasion. After further research, it was Israel that was going to be invaded by the Assyrians as judgment against Israel because of King Hezekiah’s poor judgment, trying to buy off the Assyrians by stripping silver and gold from the Temple doors. The prophecy in Isaiah 32 might point to the future reign of Josiah.
The author of this devotion, Sam, teaches us that the key to our transformation is the presence of the Holy Spirit (Isaiah 32:15). If we ask the Holy Spirit to guide our lives, then Jesus’ righteousness will bring peace, quietness, confidence, and safety. To conclude, we are worth so much to Jesus that He was willing to miss out on heaven if we weren’t there. Knowing this, how can we not be confident in our worthiness.
Reflections for you(us): What are some ways you can walk with Jesus and become one with Him?
This is my response, which might differ from yours: I will ask God to help me to be one with Jesus so I can enjoy perfect peace, utter safety, and a quiet soul. I will ask that Jesus be my righteousness today and always.
A personal prayer for us: Dear God, give us the strength and courage to run our life race toward You. Help us keep our eyes fixed upon the prize: seeing You in the glory of heaven. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

I always pray that God prepares my heart before I read and summarize God’s word.
Today’s Devotion is from Our Daily Inspirations App, titled “Hurdles and Shoelaces” by Darla Noble. The key verse is 1 Corinthians 9:24-25: “Don’t you know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run like that, that you may win. Every man who strives in the games exercises self-control in all things. Now they do it to receive a corruptible crown, but we an incorruptible.”
Darla talks about her son when he ran cross country in high school. In one particular meet, a girl acquaintance misstepped a hurdle, causing one of her shoes to come untied. Consequently, she tripped over the shoelace and fell face-first on the track. At the next track meet. Darla’s son made sure that her shoelaces were properly tied. The point of this story is that everyone needs someone in their lives.
We all need someone who, when we mess up, encourages us, lifts us up, empathizes with us, holds us accountable, and mentors us toward a deeper, more personal relationship with the Lord.
Reflections for you(us): Like hurdles in a track meet, sin is a near-constant hurdle in your lives. On whom or what would you depend to help you move beyond the sins that would try to trip you up?
This is my response, which might differ from yours: I depend on God, my wife and family, and Christian friends to keep me grounded in my faith and actions. I also ask God to give me the strength and courage to run my life’s race towards Him and help me keep my eyes fixed upon the prize: seeing Him in the glory of heaven.
A personal prayer for us: Dear God, give us the strength and courage to run our life race toward You. Help us keep our eyes fixed upon the prize: seeing You in the glory of heaven. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
