The Supreme Court of India currently has only one woman judge. She was appointed in 2021 along with two other women judges, who have since retired. Since 2021, no woman judge has been appointed to the Supreme Court. During this period, Justice D.Y. Chandrachud served as Chief Justice and appointed the maximum number of judges to the Supreme Court. All of them male. Since 2021, around 27 judges have been appointed to the Supreme Court, none of whom are women. It is not as if senior women judges are unavailable for elevation. #WomensDay2026
You may disagree with her views,that’s part of a healthy profession but personal attacks on looks or private life cross every line… As a senior woman of the Bar,her contribution to its welfare is unparalleled and deserves acknowledgment if not respect but certainly not vitriol! From transparency in Senior Designation process to laws related to woman emancipation like sexual harassment at work place,the list of her credentials is endless and unparalleled. I may not resonate with her ideology or being vociferous only for certain causes or communities but I’d still never disrespect her only because it doesn’t align with my belief systems. @IJaising -You were beautiful then & I love your purple coloured hair streaks now! It is quite clear that the Modi govt did not want to defend the UGC regulations. This is clear from the fact that they allowed upper caste protests against them (even when protestors abused Modi & Shah), unlike their clampdown on Other protests (even against pollution) The SG Mehta (who was present) didn’t make any effort to defend the regulations in the SC, & had no problem with the SC staying them. Clearly the regulations were brought only to appease the SC/ST & OBC for votes, w/o any intention to enforce them
