Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh 🤲 Alhamdulillah, I just concluded my Jummah prayer here in Jos. The Imam delivered a powerful and timely Khutba on "Peace and Harmony: How to Live with One Another Regardless of Religion or Ethnicity, and Entrusting All Our Problems to Allah Alone." He reminded us that Jos and Plateau State is a land of diversity, and our strength lies in unity, not division. He said differences in tribe, language, or faith are not mistakes they are Allah’s deliberate design so that we may know and understand one another, not fight or discriminate. He urged us to treat every neighbour with kindness, justice, and respect, whether Muslim or non-Muslim, Hausa, Berom, Igbo, Yoruba or any other. Key points he highlighted: - True peace begins in the heart. We must stop suspicion, backbiting, and ethnic profiling. - No matter the challenges we face insecurity, land disputes, or political tension we should never take matters into our own hands. Leave everything to Allah through sabr (patience) and tawakkul (complete trust). He beautifully quoted: Quran 49:13 “O mankind, indeed We have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another. Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you. Indeed, Allah is Knowing and Acquainted.” Quran 60:8 “Allah does not forbid you from those who do not fight you because of religion and do not expel you from your homes from being righteous toward them and acting justly toward them. Indeed, Allah loves those who act justly.” Quran 65:3 “And whoever puts his trust in Allah, then He ˹alone˺ is sufficient for him. Indeed, Allah will accomplish His purpose.” He also reminded us of the Prophet (SAW) ’words: - “The Muslim is the one from whose tongue and hand the people are safe.” (Sahih Bukhari & Muslim) - And on tawakkul: “If you trust in Allah as He deserves to be trusted, He will provide for you as He provides for the birds they leave early in the morning with empty stomachs and return full.” (Tirmidhi) The Imam ended by making dua for lasting peace in Jos, Plateau, and the entire nation, and called on us to be examples of harmony in our homes, markets, and workplaces. May Allah make us among those who promote peace and leave all affairs to Him alone. Ameen. What a beautiful reminder! May we all act upon it.
