Either way, it’s important to note that the we capture far more activity than the BLS. Fast food workers, nurses, bus drivers and hundreds of other group of workers went on “small” strikes in 2025. We documented 303 work stoppages last year, more than 10x the BLS total.

This explains the discrepancy between BLS and our data. These data can be used to support different interpretations of strike activity, however. According to the BLS, there was an increase in number of workers on strike in 2025. According to us, there was not.

A thread on this nerdy data question: Why did the BLS report more workers on strike in 2025 than us, despite the Labor Action Tracker documenting strikes of all sizes and the BLS only documenting those involving 1,000+ workers?
