We remember Trooper Robert Thomas. Trooper Robert Thomas succumbed to injuries received two days earlier when he was involved in a motorcycle accident while responding to a drowning call in Edwardsville. The motorcycle began to have mechanical troubles that caused him to lose control of the bike. He was thrown into a culvert and sustained severe injuries. He regained consciousness for a short time and explained what happened before passing away. Trooper Thomas had served with the Illinois State Police for one year and was assigned to District 11. Trooper Thomas was killed one day before he was to enlist in the U.S. Army. He was survived by his fiancée”. End of Watch, May 15, 1942 #NeverForget

We remember Trooper Frank Dunbar. Trooper Frank Dunbar was killed in an automobile accident while patrolling Route 37, north of Benton. Trooper Dunbar was traveling south in his marked patrol car when a 19-year-old man began to pass another vehicle heading north. Just as he noticed Trooper Dunbar approaching, he tried to veer back into the northbound lane, but was unable to keep the car under control. The vehicle flipped end-over-end into the oncoming trooper. The top of Trooper Dunbar's squad car was completely sheared off by the rolling car. Trooper Dunbar died while in route to the hospital. The other driver was charged with reckless homicide, reckless driving, and improper lane usage. Trooper Dunbar was the first trooper in 26 years to be killed in the line of duty, and the first to be killed in a patrol car accident in southern Illinois. He joined the Illinois State Police on October 28, 1957. He was assigned to District 13 in DuQuoin. His was survived by his wife and two children. End of Watch, May 14, 1972 #NeverForget

During National Police Week, we recognize and thank the dedicated professionals of the Division of Statewide 9-1-1 (SW911) for the critical support they provide to law enforcement across Illinois. SW911 serves ISP in many ways, most notably by providing telecommunications services to officers in the field, outfitting them with radios and body-worn cameras, and maintaining the agency’s radio network channels. The division also oversees ISP fleet and vehicle services, while monitoring surcharge fees for local PSAPs and managing financial disbursements to these entities. SW911 is proud to partner with all ISP divisions and law enforcement agencies throughout the country in recognition of National Police Week. Thank you to everyone in this division for your dedication, professionalism, and continued service in supporting public safety.

Kelly. “Here today, and each year to come, we stand before this Wall and we renew our solemn promise to honor their sacrifice. Each one answered the call to serve with courage, integrity, and a profound sense of responsibility. Their service reminds us of the true meaning of commitment in law enforcement and the extraordinary individuals who embody that commitment.” Read full news release: prez.ly/aiGd
