I have a story about Border and Gavaskar. In 2000, ESPN Star Sports organized a quiz series against an Indian and an Australian team. India had Gavaskar, Venkat and Sidhu, while Border had Ponting, Moody and Gilchrist as teammates. The Indians won comfortably, but I remember Allan coming to me on the last day of the quiz and presenting me his dark green game shirt for putting it all together. I lost that shirt during a house shift, and it so hurts me, given that all the tapes of the shows were also tragically erased when ESPN Star Sports ended as a joint venture!

Yes, the original ‘failure’ was the ill-considered decision to keep Mustafizur out of IPL under pressure from Right Wing hotheads with no real skin in the game and with no official explanation given by BCCI/GOI but now for Pakistan to join hands with Bangladesh is ABSURD and just an attempt to stir the pot . If Pakistan drops out now, they should be severely penalise. Bangladesh, I maintain, has reason to feel aggrieved in the manner India has allowed domestic politics to influence ad-hoc decisions, Pakistan has simply no case.(by the way, less than a year after Pahalgam and with Asia Cup bizarrely still not handed over, India will play Pakistan but won’t host Bangladesh whose longest serving PM is enjoying Indian hospitality.
