@SelectedCinema It's forever fascinating to me that this is only Highlander sequel that doesn't retcon the end of the original film, but it retcons so much other shit in such a bizarre ways that it doesn't even matter.

@billyjarrettugh Ok, this gives me an excuse to finally say this out loud despite having no evidence to back it up: I think one of Tom Cruise's screams in that infamous botched trailer is actually a stock sound effect of one of Bruce Campbell's screams from his Darkman foley recordings.

Tom Cruise has some very blustery fool acting in this that reminded me of Bruce Campbell at times. Good movie

This whole scene wasn’t in the original script. Tom Cruise suggested it at his very first meeting with the director, and it ended up becoming the best part of the film. 🤭 The Mummy (2017)

@Exalted_Speed I always see people say how "weird" it is that the 90's went down the 1930's pulp comic/adventure route as opposed to adapting popular superheroes, but it really does make perfect sense when you see these two side by side.

One of the weirdest examples of this is in the post 1980's Batman movie world because most execs were probably kids when the original Batman comics came out it meant WE GOT A SLEW of 1930-40's nostalgia hero movies from it despite..Batman not being thought of like that.

@Ughhmantha I knew a kid that got electrocuted and hospitalized because he had his headphones plugged into a computer that was plugged into a wall of a house that got struck by lightning.

Wolfen is the forgotten 80s werewolf movie, and it's great. Here, the “wolves” are a hyper-intelligent species that have lived alongside humans for centuries. The film also helped pioneer thermographic predator POV. James Horner reused his score in a sci-fi classic you might know

@MaggieMaeFish Hellraiser (2022) is my favorite recent example of this. Character fucks up so bad that Pinhead's punishment is basically "yeah, no amount of physical torture can do this justice, it's worse to just live with the consequences."

It would be exciting if Michael B. Jordan won the Oscar but a part of me is bummed that DiCaprio constructed a masterful Buffoon Trilogy across movies with Tarantino, Scorsese, and Anderson and will win zero Oscars for his trouble.

@OliverJia1014 I know it was mostly a Toho issue but I was shocked at how bad the 4k for Godzilla vs Biollante was. One of the rare times I said "wait, something is wrong" and then googled it to find multiple sources explaining it was wrong.
The regular blu-ray looked fine, but I'll pass on 4K

Criterion still does a valuable service for film preservation, but they’re not the most interesting boutique label anymore.
Their 4K transfers aren’t always as good as they could be and there has indeed been a reduction of extras over the last few years.

@Luke_Maxxing Now because of the refusal to kill these characters, Order 66 has even less weight than before because we continue to discover that, actually, TONS of Jedi survived and it wasn't actually all that bad.

@Luke_Maxxing I've been saying this for years. Like, the big complaint about Order 66 since that movie came out is that there isn't really much weight since the Jedi killed don't really have any real character and having a Ahsoka loved character killed would give it a genuine emotional weight.

I like Rebels Ahsoka a lot, that's probably my favourite era for the character, but Filoni creating a Jedi Padawan to Anakin who exists pre Order 66 and not having the balls to kill her off was probably the first clue he's not really built for this.

@moviesinfocus I was at my grandparents last year this was on TV in the background while we were chatting around the table.
Then the bit where Costner just casually walks up to one of the bad guys and shoots him point blank in the face happened and we stopped talking and just watched the rest.

Kevin Costner's Open Range is a first-rate western. It might be a strong character film, but Costner doesn't skimp on the action for the finale. The cast (Costner, Robert Duvall Michael Gambon, Annette Bening) is excellent. There's humour, heart & plenty of grit. A quiet classic.

Writers need to realize how stupid Chekhov's Gun is. Stories would have much more surprising twists if the gun was never shown at all and then in the final act Chekhov was like "well you're no match for my SECRET GUN" and started shooting a guy with his secret gun
