2024 annual piracy repot shows increase in crew taken hostage – from 126 hostages in 2024 to 73 in 2023 / 41 in 2022. Twelve crew kidnapped, compared to 14 in 2023 and two in 2022. Additionally, 12 crew threatened and one injured in 2024. @iccwbo IMB urges caution.

The #ICC IMB annual Piracy and Armed Robbery Report released today shows 116 incidents against ships in 2024, compared to 120 in 2023 and 115 in 2022. It reveals that 94 vessels were boarded, 13 attempted attacks, six vessels hijacked and three fired upon

@timwalker919 @IMOsecurity In its reporting, the #IMB distinguishes between a crew being held hostage and a crew being kidnapped depending on where the crew is held and not on the ransom payment. If held onboard the vessel it will be termed hostage and if taken ashore a kidnapping.
