𝗜𝗠𝗣𝗗 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗲𝗳 𝗧𝗲𝗿𝗿𝘆 𝗔𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗡𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗵 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘁 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 Today, IMPD Chief Tanya Terry has appointed Major Corey Mims to serve as the new Commander of North District IMPD. Commander Mims' appointment will be effective today and a ceremony will be held at a later date. Commander Corey Mims joined IMPD in 2015 and after graduating, served as a patrol officer and Field Training Officer on Southeast District. He also spent time as a member of the IMPD Traffic Unit. In 2021, he was promoted to Sergeant and assigned to North District, where he served on both middle and late shifts. During this time, he worked with the North District Violent Crimes Task Force and the Community Relations Unit. In 2023, he advanced to Lieutenant and was assigned to the Commercial Crimes Branch, overseeing investigations related to Vice, Human Trafficking, and Nuisance Abatement. He later served as a Lieutenant with the Indiana Crime Guns Task Force. Since July of 2024, Commander Mims held the rank of Major in the Community Engagement and Outreach Bureau, providing strong leadership and strategic oversight of initiatives designed to strengthen partnerships between law enforcement and the community. Commander Mims is a 2020 graduate of the IMPD Leadership Academy and currently serves as a Leadership Academy Mentor. He is a certified Indiana Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA) General Instructor and Emergency Vehicle Operations (EVO) Instructor, frequently assisting with recruit training. His experience also includes service with the IMPD Crisis Negotiator Unit (CNU) and the Event Response Group (ERG). In 2025, Commander Mims was honored as a recipient of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) 40 Under 40 Award, recognizing his leadership, innovation, and impact in the field of law enforcement. A lifelong Hoosier, Commander Mims grew up on the east side of Indianapolis and graduated from Speedway High School before attending Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI), where he studied Criminal Justice. He is a proud husband and father of four children.
