Some of you may recall my previous Nintendo Switch ambitions…one of which being an entry in India. So…whaddya think?

If Nintendo officially enters the Indian market, my Friends in India are going to be super hyped! Back when I was the Director of Operations at loanDepot, one of my responsibilities was training and managing a team of roughly 800 employees at SourcePoint Mortgage in Bangalore, India. During one of our Teams meetings, they spotted the NBA JAM arcade in my office and couldn’t believe I actually had an arcade machine at work 😂 That led them into asking if I had ever played Nintendo games or if I just play arcade games. Of course, I started talking about my lifelong history with Nintendo and joked that the only way I’d ever leave loanDepot was if the Phoenix Suns or Nintendo offered me a job. Neither has happened 'yet' 😂 but at least I get to cover Nintendo games now. What really stuck with me was them saying they wished they could easily play Nintendo games in India because access was next to impossible. They told me they had heard Nintendo was like the “Crown Jewel” of video games and asked me if, in my estimation, that was true. I told them I enjoy all the consoles, but if I could only keep one, I wouldn’t have to think twice about choosing Nintendo. After that, before pretty much every meeting, they’d ask what games I was currently playing on Nintendo and what they were like. India has a HUGE passion for gaming and I honestly think Nintendo will do incredibly well there. Keep in mind, India’s population is estimated around 1.47 billion people and the median age is only 29. The potential of the gaming market there is enormous.

@NintyPrime And 90% of these people can't afford a Switch. The PS4 sold only 500k in India.

Whelp, this alone likely ensures Switch passes PS2. You wonder what the new all time record bar will land at.

For years, I’ve been saying that as long as Nintendo doesn’t cease production, Nintendo Switch will clear 160 million sold worldwide, sometime in the summer of 2027. It’s at 155.37m, which means it’s a mere 4.63m away from that figure. It’s got six quarters to sell in the mid several hundred thousand range…and one quarter to sell in the high several hundred thousand to maybe one million range (but I’m counting on Holiday, 2026 at this point, to be sub 1m). There are some factors at play that we don’t yet know what their full impact will be, including tariffs and RAM prices going up, but I’m optimistic. If those things put too big of a dent in my projections, though, I think we’re still looking at 160m for the console, not too long after. As for things that would help? - Console price drop across all SKUs - Player’s Choice / Nintendo Selects - New bundle - Continued advancement in China - Entering India - Nintendo Switch Mini I’d totally dig it if there was a Nintendo Switch Mini out there for only a hundred bucks and for the entire brand that is NS, to hit 210 million, world wide.
