INTERPOL Major Event Security Programme

Major sporting events bring people together across cultures and borders - a shared passion between millions of fans around the world.   And behind every successful event is careful planning and strong cooperation to ensure the safety and security of athletes, spectators and staff.   Since its launch in 2012, Project Stadia has significantly contributed to increasing the readiness of member countries to deal with security challenges accompanying major events.   This is why, during my mission to Qatar, I was pleased to sign a three-year extension to the project which will ensure its sustainability as well as the completion of ongoing programmes and initiatives.   My thanks to HE Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Qatar’s Minister of Interior @MOI_QatarEn, Commander of the Internal Security Forces (Lekhwiya) and Chairman of the Security Committee for his continued support.   My mission was also an opportunity to visit our NCB in Doha to meet the dedicated team working there in our joint mission to fight transnational crime and make the world a safer place.   And, as always, it was a pleasure to meet with my friend Ali Mohammed Al-Ali, who as both Executive Committee Delegate for Asia and head of NCB Doha continuously demonstrates his commitment to the global law enforcement community.

INTERPOL has deployed a Joint Task Force to support Qatar in safely hosting the #FIFAArabCup2025. Through @INTERPOL_STADIA and its Command and Coordination Centre, a full range of policing capabilities is being mobilized on the ground in Doha. These efforts range from database checks to cyber threat monitoring to help ensure a secure and successful tournament.

Stadia delivered a two-days symposium in Doha, Qatar, with experts, academia, industry and police from 5 continents discussing crowd management, current and emerging threats to major events, and how technology can mitigate those risks.

INTERPOL Project Stadia trained 22 participants from 21 countries and 4 continents in Lyon, France (14-18 April 2025), to share expertise and best practices for safer major events worldwide.

INTERPOL Project Stadia presented “International Police Cooperation Center (IPCC): Development and Execution” in a 2-day workshop last month to 4 US federal agencies, participating in the security preparations for IPCC for the FIFA World Cup 2026 in Canada, Mexico and USA.

INTERPOL Project Stadia delivered training in Hong Kong (China) from 17 to 21 February 2025, providing a unique opportunity to exchange expertise and best practices in sports security.

Stadia is honored to collaborate with Moroccan authorities in hosting this regional workshop. Day 1 was filled with valuable insights, and we look forward to more presentations on day 2.

BREAKING: Valdecy Urquiza of Brazil has been proposed by INTERPOL’s Executive Committee as its candidate to be the next Secretary General of INTERPOL. His candidacy will be submitted to the INTERPOL General Assembly in November 2024.

@INTERPOL_STADIA and a Qatari police delegation are in Dublin to gather best practices in Garda Síochána's security operations during the @EuropeLeague that will be shared with INTERPOL's member countries.

Security representatives from Qatar, Ivory Coast, and Morocco are coming together with international and regional organizations such as UN, CAF, and ICSS at Stadia workshop to address important safety and security topics for major events.

@INTERPOL_STADIA has deployed to Ivory Coast to deliver Crowd Management training for senior police commanders, gendarmerie, and CRS, who will be responsible for policing and securing the AFCON 2023. This international training has been delivered worldwide.
