Panamá | 🇵🇦 IDEA Internacional promovió un espacio de diálogo en la Comarca Ngäbe Buglé sobre participación de las mujeres y paridad, dando inicio así al proyecto "Fortalecimiento de la gobernanza democrática y eficaz, y una ciudadanía más participativa en la región Ngäbe Buglé”, financiado por la Agencia Española de Cooperación Internacional para el Desarrollo (@AECIDPanama). 📍El evento contó con el acompañamiento del diputado Roberto Archibold y la participación de 14 lideresas de la comarca. El encuentro se realizó en Rambalá, Chiriquí Grande, este 21 de mayo. 📝El diálogo se centró en identificar las barreras a la igualdad de género y la paridad, identificando mecanismos o iniciativas concretas de avance. Por parte de @Int_IDEA participaron Alicia del Águila, gerente del programa Panamá, y Susana Araúz, asociada del proyecto.

HC @AmbAbhishekIFS had cordial meeting with Dr Kevin Casas-Zamora, Secretary-General of the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA), who is on an official visit to Nigeria. HC also addressed a gathering of Ambassadors and other key interlocutors applauding the work of IDEA and spoke of partnership that the world largest democracy- India can further offer to world. International IDEA Secretary General Dr. Kevin Casas‑Zamora briefed member states country Ambassadors in Nigeria to strengthen ties, collaboration and support for the Institute’s three key programmes: 1️⃣ The Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption (RoLAC) Programme 2️⃣ EU-Support to End Sexual and Gender Based Violence (ESGBV) 3️⃣ EU-Civil Society Organizations Strengthening Bridge Programme During the brief meeting, he stressed how crucial strong democratic institutions and collaborative international frameworks are to achieving lasting systemic stability and sustainable national development in Nigeria and Africa at large. In conclusion, he applauded the achievements of the programmes, highlighting RoLAC’s role in removing Nigeria from the FATF grey list. So, we did a thing in South Africa.  🎉🥳 it’s official, the Secretary General, Dr Kevin Casas-Zamora officially launched the Africa and West Asia regional office in Pretoria South Africa.   The launch brought together senior government officials, diplomatic representatives, civil society leaders, and development partners from across Africa and West Asia to mark a defining moment in International IDEA's institutional presence on the continent. The AWA Regional Office serves as the hub for our democracy support work across the region, working alongside parliaments, electoral institutions, judicial bodies, civil society actors, grassroots organisations, and pro-democracy movements to build inclusive and resilient democracies. From Nigeria to Kenya, Mozambique to Tunisia, Lesotho to Sierra Leone, the work continues, now with a new regional home. Congratulations to us. Congratulations to the AWA team.

Yesterday, Secretary-General Kevin Casas-Zamora welcomed Swedish State Secretary for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade Karin Juhlin to International IDEA's headquarters at Strömsborg, Stockholm. As a founding Member State and host country, Sweden holds a unique place in @Int_IDEA's history and mission. Discussions focused on the state of democracy globally and across Eastern Europe, as well as opportunities to strengthen cooperation on countering Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference (FIMI), AI and democracy, and supporting Ukraine’s democratic future.

@Int_IDEA is participating in the first-ever conference on advancing the electoral participation of persons with disabilities in the digital era, organised by United Nations Development Programme in collaboration with the United Nations Electoral Assistance Division and Africa Disability Alliance. IDEA’s participation is supported through the EU-funded SPEC Project.

As a society, how we treat children who are in conflict with the law goes a long way in determining if we are redirecting them towards a better future or condemning them to a life of crime and isolation. The 13th New Commissioners’ Orientation (NCO) Programme – Southern Africa will take place in Johannesburg, South Africa, from 3–5 June 2026. Two days from today, we’ll be bringing together a Europe‑wide group of researchers, practitioners, and civil society leaders to examine how cross‑border threats are reshaping democratic governance across the continent. On Wednesday, May 13, we are hosting the second of our Europe Pre‑Forum Webinars, ‘Between Fragmentation and Coordination: Navigating Cross‑Border Democratic Challenges in Europe’. The conversation will be guided by a diverse panel of experts working at the intersection of democracy, accountability, and transnational risk. Joining us are Dr Slagjana Taseva, former Dean and Executive Secretary of the @IACA_Academy and long served Member of the Academic Advisory Board of the IACA, Giovana Fleck, Media Innovation Manager at @RNW_Media, Ognjen Karadžić, Digital Democracy Research Coordinator at @DemocracyR, and Khushbu Agrawal, Adviser for the Money in Politics team at @Int_IDEA. Together, they bring perspectives spanning electoral integrity, anti‑corruption, civil society collaboration, and media ecosystems. The discussion will be moderated by Elisenda Balleste Buxo, Programme Manager of the Global Democracy Coalition. Their insights will help surface the structural dilemmas Europe is facing as disinformation, interference, and digital manipulation operate across borders while responses remain fragmented and uneven.
