Many research and monitoring programs use a Bongo style net. Her the CalCofi program uses a Bongo to sample plankton in the ocean. Our Bongo frame includes skids to avoid dredging up mud when we contact the bottom of the river. calcofi.org/bongo-net-tow/

This allows us to collect replicate samples at the same time. We can use the presence of a species in one net to inform how well we can detect the species with the second net. This gives us a way to quantify how often we might be missing the target species.

In addition to conducting real-time monitoring to avoid entrainment into the state and federal water projects, we also conduct special studies to improve upon the monitoring. Here we are testing a prototype "Bongo" style frame for larval fish sampling
