Our workshop aimed to develop an understanding of how climate change and geopolitics interact to shape regional security priorities in #SouthAsia. Participants tested the limits of regional cooperation through a two-day simulation exercise on climate data-sharing.

We designed the workshop to challenge the assumption that climate impacts--from migration to military dynamics--offer an obvious entry point for South Asian cooperation. Very encouraged by the discourse it generated, and by the participation of officialdom from across the region.

IPCS was pleased to host a track 1.5 regional workshop on 'Climate Change and Geopolitics in South Asia'. The workshop was held from 4-6 May 2026 in Kochi, Kerala, in partial collaboration with the Indian Navy’s Southern Naval Command.
