Good speech by @RachelReevesMP today with her clearest articulation yet of the government's growth agenda. She's right to be focussing on boosting succesful economic clusters. While also lifting employment rights, competition and devolution to make sure benefits are shared. (1/4)

Economic resilience as a bedrock to this theory is welcome in an era of global instability. Announcements on additional funding for investment in cities, closer alignment with Europe and a push towards greater fiscal devolution are all positive for growth too

The Mais lecture today was Rachel Reeves' chance to narrate this government's theory of growth. She doubles down on an agenda that has government actually doing stuff in the economy. a welcome shift from the old status quo where it takes a back seat to short-termist markets

🏨A visitor levy could be a game‑changer for the North, as it has been across Europe. 🪙A small charge on overnight stays could help fund better transport, support culture + green spaces, and boost our towns and cities that welcome millions each year. Here’s why it matters 👇

There are no longer any safe seats. We’re no longer in a two-party system. Voters are now, rightly, more demanding of their politicians and are prepared to look elsewhere. If you add up the vote share of Greens and Reform and compare it to Labour and Conservatives it’s clear voters are rejecting mainstream politics. If Labour and Conservatives want to thrive in this environment they need to do more than defend the status quo.
BBC Radio 4 Today@BBCr4today

The Greens’ by election victory raises 'major questions' about the traditional dominance of Labour and the Conservatives as the leading political parties, says polling guru Sir John Curtice.
