Congratulations to Muhammed Cifci. He has been offered and accepted a data science job at Ntrepid, a firm that contracts with government agencies operating in the national security realm. He will be starting in this position next semester.

New article now live at @SPPQJournal! Executive ideology is understudied relative to legislative, bc execs only "vote" on a small subset of bills. But @Adam_Bonica's CFscores allow us compare them to other actors in a new way. My focus: US governors. 1/5 cambridge.org/core/journals/…

Successful symbolic policy has the opposite effect, being more readily adopted by states seeking similar outcomes. Issue framing here is critical, as even the “quintessential” morality policy of abortion can be “de-moralized” when the goal is substantive (closed clinics).

Using both substantive and symbolic policy examples, we reinforce that success can drive learning, but also that “success” itself is a value-laden term. Substantive TRAP laws successfully lower the number of abortion providers but hinder future adoptions.

Some new work dropping! Here, Chris and I investigate state policy learning using abortion policies from 1993-2016. We build on the diffusion literature related to how states learn from one another, and under what circumstances this occurs. bit.ly/3DTcd3Y

🎉🎉Let's congratulate UIC's newest PhD, Dr @IPollert!!! Isaac is heading off to a Post Doc at Penn State to continue his research on state politics, policy diffusion and elections administration. His dissertation examines how states emulate similar states' elections policy.

@ProfHansNoel @MPSAnet We use 4 experiments to test the I/E model in whites’ support for education spending. Results show that I&E race cues depress white support for ed funding. Yet, we find no I or E priming. Ideas about when I/E model fails. With @AndreaAManning @afilindra (Thurs 8am, Burnham 1)

What is a "true" American, and what are their values? We ask Americans in a new national survey. What we find elucidates how partisanship impacts 1st and 2nd Amendment values and more. (Full report embedded within the article) today.uic.edu/survey-measure…

I want to put together a list of MA programs in psych that provide strong stats and methods prep, but don't prey on students (i.e., charge crazy high tuition), and ideally ones that provide some financial support (e.g., TA or RA opportunities, or fellowships). Recommendations?
